« on: October 01, 2015, 06:57:27 AM »
Sunday, October 18th @ 9am here:

http://stafforddiner.com/about.html

After breakfast we can head to the Cranberry Festival in Chatsworth. Lots to see, and they have a good classic car show on Sunday.

Everyone welcome,  regardless of state or ride.

@%@#%#%# the closest one to me all year and Jenn's working! ARGH.

But guess I had to know that could happen. Looks like she's on Sat/Sun both that weekend and the weekend before it. So I only had a 50/50 chance of the date working out. Duh.

Still, this is like the closest one to me all year!

Really close to me.  The only weekend I'm available this month.  Get a sitter for a few hours?    Take the car with the ankle-biters?   Kids would love the Cran Fest.  You can leave Seamus in the wolf pen for a while if he promises not to hurt them.

Sitters are still pretty scarce. Especially on weekends as are go-to is a star soccer player.

But ya know, they're getting old enough I could almost do that (bring em both along).

Will consider it.

What time would you guys think you'll be hitting the festival?

11ish?

Just joined the board and saw this. Unfortunately I'll be working through this weekend, but would definitely be interested in this at another time.

Damn, I had no idea the Cranberry Festival is that big.

Guys, take the first parking opportunity you find, it all costs the same and gets REALLY jammed at the center of town.

Kids loved the Wolves... We went in and petted them and Jenn got her pic taken with them along with the Fi and Shay.

Also, damn, I've been passing Hot Diggity Dog up for a year... I'm a moron... They have jalapeño hot dogs, as in hot dogs laced with jalapeños!!! But wait, there's more, you can get chili, cheese, jalapeño dogs!!! They were awesome.

Kids had Cranberry Ice Cream too.

Life is good.

Have fun tomorrow.

Sorry I can't meet up!

Yea, that Festival gets bigger every year.  I made the mistake of riding through it today while out thrashing my V7 Sport that's been neglected all summer.  We'll take the long way there tomorrow, and park at the southern most end on 563.  Huge car show tomorrow.

Hot Diggity Dog is owned by the Griffen girls.  Their father "Griff"  owns the old school bike shop at the corner of 532/563.  Griff is in his 70's, and was a flat tracker back in the day.  He still rides his Harley all over hell and creation.  He's completed two of those "Hoka-hey" rides http://www.hokaheychallenge.com  that I know of.  The first one he did started in the FL Keys and ended somewhere in Northern Alaska.  He RODE down to the start, and back from the finish.  Hard core dude.  You'll see him at the stand, and he'll ask about your Guzzi.

The girls told me they're closing for the season after the festival. Bummer. I promised them I'll start stopping by next season!.

Hell, maybe we should make a NJ Pinelands Lunch Run one month next year!

How was the "karate club" tailgate?  Everyone end up fighting each other? I can see you, like Kramer, fighting a dojo full of 10 year olds.

Good time. It's a good bunch.

They've got deep Shotokan roots that go back to the ISKF (Okazaki, our old organization), but they've also got some Brazilian Jujitsu/MMA that blends well with the too often ignored grappling/throwing/submission holds found in Shotokan Katas if you look deep enough.

They've got an MMA fighter who trains and teaches there too, and run some separate women's self defense and kids karate programs.

The karate training so far has been relatively hardcore (lots of partner work and not too gentle) which is why I suspect Jenn is the only woman in the program right now (as far as we can tell in these first few weeks).

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Seems like a good group of practitioners that can push us with much to learn from them.

http://fullcirclemartialarts.net/adult-karate/

I think you'd enjoy, though the distance would be a bitch. It's right by the intersection of 70 & 73.

So how'd the breakfast and festival go? Pretty nice day for it!

I started with Shotokan back in college, then trained several other styles (love grappling) including boxing.  Really started wearing on my joints.  Now I've mastered the art of "TASER".  Lot less work - same result.  Seems like everyone wearing a Tapout T-Shirt thinks they're a MMA fighter these days.

Yeah I know we've talked about the Shotokan vs Take My Dough, so I thought you'd appreciate.

Check the website, their MMA guy is pro. Last fight was in Atlantic City I think.

Weapons are the great equalizers (I know you know better than many), but the arts are still useful skills combined with excellent motivation to get in/stay in shape.

People can have their spinning or cross fit classes, NOTHING motivates like having a well trained (or evenly poorly trained) 250# man try to punch you in the face or kick you in the gut.

You know I'm a reluctant runner... I've always said if you see me running you'd better turn and sprint (or hold and draw)...

Finally scanned those pics they took at the Cranberry Festival when Fi and Shay got to meet some wolves.

This big guy was but a baby, only 5 months old!

I think they both liked it. Fi isn't actually scared of the Wolf in this pick, but she's not quite sure about the guy taking the picture (who runs the rescue), which is funny cause he looks a lot like me.
