On the calendar!  Look at that pic...wow!

So just down the road a country mile from the old site it appears.

Dusty...maybe you can make it this year if Mike is going to ride all the way from California, you can come down from Muskogee!

Come talk to the real live Texas Turnip in person and have your picture made with him!  The "REAL" Tex will be there this year, no "virtual" Tex.  He'll also be bringing his famous breakfast breads for Sunday morning!

For y'all that don't like camping, here's a list of the local motels:

Hampton Inn 903-882-1002
Best Western Inn 903-882-8884
Comfort Suites 903-882-8613
Laquinta Inn & Suites 903-882-1600
Motel 6  903-882-7800

Dave, I'll have to check on the trees.  There are brick columns in back of one of the buildings that you could hang a hammock on if you wanted to.  I'll post pictures later to let you see.

Tex is going to start baking his breads next week!  Yummy!

Dave
Galveston

There's not any trees close together that you can hang a hammock from; however there are brick columns behind one of the buildings and there's a wooden post kinda close to a light pole(broken) and a tree close to an empty wooden swingset frame.  There's also a large limb, but it's pretty low so it might not work.  Here's pics:

You can throw down a tent anywhere or drive your van anywhere in the yard and sleep in it.

Did we lose access to the old place?  Nice and wooded it was!

Well, there's pros and cons to both places.  American Legion has all the trees and the beautiful lake, but we can't use the building and there's still lots of slick shale in the driveway.  I can't leave the American Legion because there's not another member to stay out there if I leave.  I have to load up my truck with tables and chairs and coolers and tubs of food, drinks, and supplies and make several trips to take everything out there and then I have to haul it all home on Sunday after everyone leaves.  (Thank you Randy Tefft and Tex for helping with transport!)

At my house, everything is already there, no loading and hauling supplies to and from another location.  If it rains or gets too cold or too hot, or if we just want to, we can go inside.  There's a big garage, a large meeting room (formerly a dance studio) and a large covered carport. And for those who camp, there are showers!  If I want to lead a group ride, or run to the store, I can leave to do that.  There's plenty of room to spread out, indoors and out.  The pool and spa can be heated if it's cool outside.

Maybe we'll get lots of rain and the burn ban will be lifted.  Tex gave me a fire pit so hopefully we'll get to use it.

Come and enjoy!

I hope I get to make it this year! I'm starting a new job next, and will once again be working some weekends. The trade off for working some weekends (and every single holiday) though, is that I finally get to work for Texas Parks and Wildlife. I've been trying to work for them for years! Amanda, unfortunately will not make it this year. She was just cast in a production at the historic community theater in Lockhart, and that weekend will be a doozy for her.

We always look forward to helping the industrious Beaver for the Sunday feed by packing along a salad and a surprise dessert from my wife.

Alas, we cannot make it this year.   Conflicts with my annual family reunion.

Hope everyone has a great time.  Will catch up with everyone in 2019.

Mr and Mrs SmithSwede and their beautiful daughter will definitely be missed, not only for their salad and dessert, but for their other creative entertainment!  Last year they cheered up the Texas Turnip, who was still in the hospital/rehab because of a serious accident, by having everyone send a "Tex Message".  You could even have your picture made with the virtual Tex! (see picture on a previous post.) A few years ago the "Acme Trophy Company" donated the Golden Turnip Award for the Shortest Mileage ridden to the rally.  I wonder who won that?  It is still the centerpiece on his dining room table.     Have fun at your family reunion.  You better be here next year!

Fubar,

If you come and if you bring some road kill, I promise you, I will cook it for you!  Now if you bring some fresh Rodekyll, I might not stick him on the grill.

Leave a couple of days early so you can be sure to get here!  Call if you need directions.  903.316.7720 Bring Dusty with you.  He's promised to make it down here too!  Come on 4 if 2 aren't running!  We don't care.  :)
