I was installing a pressure gauge and due to all the crap at the front of the bike, I found the best place to install a new pressure switch was between the airbox legs.

Anyway I'm messing about and find 2, 8mm holes one on the front and one in the back of the airbox on the clean side.

So why would anybody do this? It would destroy any residual Ram air pressure (not that there would be much anyway) but more important let crap into the engine.

Was there a fashion trend or reason for doing this, I cannot think of a good reason, seems to me a really bad thing to do

We not pictures.

There should be one on the front side, that the crankcase ventilation system routes to. Don't recall anything on the back.

Hard to take pictures Wayne that would mean anything

There are a few pipes one for crank vent system on the clean side and another routing to the barometric transmitter both on the top of the airbox the dirty side

These are additional and look like a PO has taken an 8mm drill and punched 2 holes, one at the rear on the left and one at the front more or less where the crank vent hose is on the opposite side

I was gobsmacked, I've ordered some 8mm bungs to plug them from the outside, if that isn't a success then I'll epoxy a plastic patch.

I've heard of airboxes getting drilled and the like, was there not something like that for the FatDuck mod?

Anyway, drilling the airbox doesn't seem to me a particularly good idea

Since it's technically a duct, a certain type of tape might be in order.

I’ve never had unpleasant inhabitants in my air box.

I know of four options:

1. Leave well enough alone because you believe that Guzzi spent a lot of research and development on this airbox. (As opposed to the rest of the bike)
2. Remove the top of the airbox to let in  more air.
3. Pod filters on plastic intake runners.
4. Pod filters with velocity stacks.  :thumb:

duct tape.  easy to take off if it runs worse.

Ok thanks everybody

A BIG thank you to Guzzisteve in particular for letting me know a possible spare is available if required. I don't think it will be required as the damage can be pretty easily rectified (I hope)

I'll post up what I finally do, ductape is a good idea but I still prefer a decent bung or an plastic patch. It was just through chance that I had to remove the airbox top and even then the hole was not that obvious. I had been cutting hose close to the box with the top off, so I was doing an inspection to make sure nothing had fallen in there (it hadn't) that led to the discovery

Then when trying to get the box out I discovered the second hole at the front.

Airbox and filter were clean, but as it just had a new filter installed by a PO there is good chance the box also had been cleaned out. The one at the rear particularly worried me as all the crap from the rear tyre would be thrown in there and into the airbox, albeit the holes are small.

I wonder what other "gems" I'll find along the way?
