The Eagle has landed, Mk1 Le Mans content
« on: September 11, 2018, 10:06:41 PM »
One door closes, another opens.....
So, while I missed out on that white LeMans III in NJ, Cam connected me with the seller of this Mk1 LeMans, a 1977 model.     While it's got some incorrect details with the paint and some other small details, it's all there.    It'll need a battery, and likely a carb cleaning and some tires to start.

Thank you Cam!!

What a deal, 2 sidestands.

Two for the price of one!

The brown side stand is definitely worth having.   I didn't know the original was still on the bike until it showed up this evening.

The warning light panel is a separate piece and rather fragile. At least you have a chance of actually seeing the warning lights.

Very nice low mile example. You shouldn't have to do much to it. I see the steering damper has already been binned. No need to replace it. Mine has been in the off position almost since new.
I think these came with 135 mains. Check whats there. You might want to go up one size (137.5??) to compensate for the ethanol fuel which didn't exist when these came in. Otherwise just a simple tune up and valve adjust and you should be good to go.
Also do you know if the steel caliper pistons have been replaced? If not they should be with the newer coated aluminum ones.

Congrats, great addition for sure!

To add to that, the eagle logo is the actual Italian civilian wings a pilot would earn at the time.

The V35II and V50III (not sure about the V50II) and probably the V65 had that style of dashboard lights with separate left and right turn signal lights. The early V35 and V50 had the same dashboard lights as the Le Mans 1 should have, but the colours were different (green for I think the lights and blue high beam, while I believe everything should be red on the le mans except for the orange neutral light).

My recently acquired '78 LM1 has black headlight ears and handlebars as well as all-red warning lights on the dash except for the neutral indicator, which is green.

That sounds right. If your turn signal dash lights are wired up, it's a useful upgrade. I made the same modification to my T3.

Last weekend, I finally got the Le Mans back together after pulling the forks for rebuild/upgrade.
The above pics are from the first ride after fork rebuild with '96 Honda VFR750 cartridges. The new forks work brilliantly!
Just need to get the fairing back on it (couldn't wait to try out, and skipped the fairing).

The Bub mufflers make such sweet music!

It's got a bunch of details that are not correct that I'll be taking care of as I get time.

Also, it NEEDs rear sets.     The stock foot peg position is too forward for clip-ons.   I felt folded up when riding it.

I'm thinking I'll go with the Agostini rear sets.

That’s the exhaust I have on my LM V.  It’s great.  Report back on your rearset decision - I’ve thinking about a set myself.  Who stocks the Agostinis in the US?
