I'm old enough , and also remember the silly drills in school where we were instructed to get under our desks and cover our heads . DAC , duck and cover  :rolleyes: Already having learned by the age of 6 just how ridiculous that was , I simply refused to do so , leaving the teachers and principal slightly bewildered  :evil:

 Dusty

 Dusty I remember those same drills.
 crawl under the desk put your hands over your head and kiss your butt goodbye... which then changed to walk in an orderly fashion down two flights of stairs to the fall out/bomb shelter in the basement.... double file please

I remember...

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Colonel... that Coca-Cola machine. I want you to shoot the lock off it. There may be some change in there.
Colonel "Bat" Guano: That's private property.
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: Colonel! Can you possibly imagine what is going to happen to you, your frame, outlook, way of life, and everything, when they learn that you have obstructed a telephone call to the President of the United States? Can you imagine? Shoot it off! Shoot! With a gun! That's what the bullets are for, you twit!
Colonel "Bat" Guano: Okay. I'm gonna get your money for ya. But if you don't get the President of the United States on that phone, you know what's gonna happen to you?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: What?
Colonel "Bat" Guano: You're gonna have to answer to the Coca-Cola company.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Major T. J. "King" Kong: Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.

That is funny stuff

Omg and  at the end of the movie slim pickins jumps on top of the A-bomb with his cowboy hat and kicks it loose riding it to the end

Yep, I was one of those who argued with the teacher.  They got kinda upset when I described what an atomic blast would be like.  One girl started crying.  :)  I was only 9.

.  Early computer programming was all about the most efficient use of memory space.  Commands were limited to a few bits in memory.
Indeed, manufacturers made up their own languages back then HP came up with HPL an engineering language of mostly 3 letter commands.
Used in their 9825 which was a great instrument/ machine tool controller in its day.

Forerunners of the modern acronyms I guess

When I was in high school, the guy down the street had a hot rod Ventura - seriously - and a Harley chopper. He had a good government job, working at the headquarters of the Federal Aviation Administration.

The license plate on his Ventura was all about his job: FAAHQ.

Pronounced...

On the subject of acronymic (is that a word?) license plates, my favourite two are COD FDR, on a fisherman's truck in Steveston BC, and WAS HIS on a big Merc driven by a middle-aged woman wearing a big fur coat.

Lotus 123 was written by an ex-employee of VisiCalc, which was the original spreadsheet program in 1979. Some claim it was "stolen". The original company was bought by Lotus in about 1985, and they promptly terminated VisiCalc. Spreadsheets are commonplace now, but at the time Visicalc came out they were really quite amazing.
