A duck lay dying on a busy intersection. Gathered around it, several ducks refused to yield to human traffic. They quacked loudly, flapping wings and acting agitated. The driver ahead of me plowed across the intersection, narrowly missing the small flock, scattering them initially but they quickly returned to their wounded partner. Parking my bike on the road with hazards flashing, forcing those behind me to stop, I dismounted and approached to ducks. The wounded duck was clearly dying, but still conscious. I lifted up the duck and carried it to a grassy embankment on the side of the road. The duck assembly followed in my footsteps. He died as I laid him on the soft grass. As I walked back onto the road and mounted my bike, the small duck family surrounded their dearly departed, touched him with beaks, rubbing feathers, certainly grieving. And after a minute or two, they flew off into the sky. Thanks, touching story.
Back when I was a sophomore in high school, I lost my billfold while racing motocross. It was found 21 years later by my brother-in-law's father, working with a surveying crew. What are the chances?Randy
"Sophomore" a term I hear all the time on TV shows but it is not one that is used in NZ. What the hell is a sophomore ?
A second year student , in high school or college . Dusty
Thanks Dusty. Why does anyone bother having a special name for them rather than just "2nd year"
A potato. I found it in the chute of a potato truck, in front of me at a light, when I was 16. I picked it out of the chute, put it in my pocket and rode to the place I worked. Then I wrapped it in foil, and cooked it in the trash barrel out back. One of the best potatoes I've ever eaten.
John , explaining why the English language varies so much from country to country and even county to county would take a tome equivalent to War and Peace . In the states we use the terms freshman, sophomore , junior , and senior to designate 1st thru 4th year students . No idea why . Reading Bill Bryson's book on the English language did not reveal anything on the subject . Dusty
I found this old Ford on a dirt road. I took a souvenir - the hood badge.
