Norge Exhaust Options
« on: January 15, 2017, 07:29:51 PM »
Starting to save my Pennies for an exhaust upgrade for my 8V Norge, to include the midpipe (or crossover colostomy bag cat convertor eliminator)

GT has a Zard and Midpipe
AF1 has an Augustini and Midpipe
MGCycle has a Mistral and Midpipe

AF1 & GT are about the same price, MG Cycle is about $300 cheaper.

No real preference other than highly motivated to save some coin... I have an Augustini Hydroformed on my Griso which I love, but interested in some feedback/info. on the benefits/drawbacks on the systems & mid-pipe recommendations.

The stock Norge silencer will open up as you put some miles on it. Eventually, after a few thousand miles, it will have a really nice tone. It will be louder than it was when new, and it will sound better, too.

I am on my second Norge. On my first Norge, I installed an Agostini silencer and often rode with the DB killer removed. Around town, it sounded glorious. However, on long highway trips, it was too loud. With the DB killer installed, it was quieter than stock. This time around, I think I will leave the stock silencer alone.

If you are interested in an Agostini or Mistral silencer and/or Y-pipe, you might be able to purchase them directly from Italy and have them shipped for less than you would pay a distributor in the States. (Perhaps with GPR, too.) I did with my Agostini silencer. (I never did remove the colostomy bag from Norge number 1.)

I went back and forth trying to decide. finally pulled the trigger on the Mistral mainly because of the ability to retain the center stand and the carbon fiber. I really like the look and sound with the db killer out. its a bit louder than stock but not obnoxious. the db killer is easy to remove and install so you can experiment which way is best for you.

forgot to add I did not do the y-pipe, just the slip-on as this way I didn't have to mess with tuning.

Granted all were on Jap sport bikes, but they had that tinny frap frap sound. On the same bikes, I liked the Stain Tune, Muzzy and Two Brothers.  I've never heard a GPR on a Guzzi.  I may start with just the colostomy bag and see what that sounds like.

This was my GT-Rx exhaust I had them make for me (at about the same price as the OEM, which became, er, futzted when the end-cap fell off and I discovered that Guzzi's part catalog didn't include the end cap as a purchaseable part).

Wish you would have revved the throttle a bit in the video. Concerning the end cap. Lost two of the three screws in the first couple of weeks of ownership. Dealer gave me replacement screws and I used lock tight and that worked until the whole outer muffler shell started coming apart. Turns out it was only held in place by some poor quality tack welds. Had it put back together using rivets instead and no problems since. The stock muffler slowly sounds better with age.

I have a Staintune.
Ii like the sound of it DB killer is removed.
Lighter  then stock. One thing I don't dig is, Its harder for me to get my foot between it and the center stand the gap is smaller then stock.
