quality Chinese products

No, that is not an oxymoron 😂😂

I want to know what you've bought that was made in China that turned out to be actually well made.

I have a pair of snow boots I bought before coming to Germany. They are strong, stout, warm and comfortable. I paid then, I think  $100 for them. I think that they will last several more winters.

I bought a high quality stainless steel pots & pans set I still have back in 1970.  Have had to replace a few bakelite lid knobs but that is all. The lids have see thru glass.

I have this Ruby helmet, made in Xiamen, China.

Extremely well made, couldn't pick a flaw on the workmanship.

My only worry is the materials maybe carcinogenic

The ony reason the Chinese make so much cheap junk is because we Americans usually look for the cheap  prices instead of best quality.  We usually cannot get both so we end up buying their cheap junk. They can make high quality stuff, if we would be willing to pay for it.

As mentioned above, it's the price we want to pay. After all you're talking about a country that builds everything it needs from ornaments to aircraft carriers.

Just bought the least expensive laminate wood look flooring at Lowe's for two bedrooms... Made in USA...HJC helmets are made in China ,supposed to be decent quality and they are not all that inexpensive.. I believe that Taiwan made stuff can be better quality the mainland stuff. I always try to avoid Chinese made ball or roller bearings..

Interesting topic. The latter sentiment is one I'll endorse. They can produce quality, at a price.

My company consumes high volumes of 6061 aluminum extrusions. This are light weight, light guage, extrusions. Think bathtub sliding doors...the metal part. We've been buying this material for 60 years. We have a pretty good grasp of the range of capability in this very narrow slice of the global manufacturing diaspora. The Chinese stuff is the best. Period. We are largely unable to access it due to the tariffs placed on it in a bid to level the playing field for American manufacturers, but it has yet to result in improved product. The money they're not losing to competition is not being spent on improved productivity and processes. We are diversified, purchasing from other Asian sources, and purchase as much American as we can, but it is notably inferior to all the Asian product, with the Chinese product at the very top.

I tried to think a good product which is a China brand and made in China around me, instead of some foreign to them brands that are made in China.

Not many actually except the MI Powerbank that I bought recently.

I have been very pleasantly surprised with two pairs of H-D brand made in China leather gloves I got free for test riding a V-Rod back around 2003. I use both pairs regularly for general use, not riding and both pairs are still going strong and holding up well.

recently I was thinking to buy a M65 field coat for myself.

I had one when I was a teenager in the 80s, my father bought it for me in a flea market. I used it as riding jacket on my moped, it was stolen when I left it on the moped seat after a few years of use.

so I found this Alpha Industries a few weeks ago, which was one of the contractors making M65 back then and they are still selling it online now.

right before I wanted to place an order, I found out the jacket is now made in China.

Assuming the qulity is as good as the old jacket, do I want a M65 that is made in China? I am not so sure now.

I'm guessing the lack of responses to this question is speaking volumes!

At 0152 in the morning EST?   Five minutes after the original posting?   The "lack of responses" means that everyone is asleep or hasn't had time to read it yet, I suspect.

The Beijing Olympics changed my mind about Chinese electronics. I have an Oppo 7 phone that is bad ass. It's three years old now and I really don't have a good reason to replace it. I would buy a Chinese phone again, probably a Xiaomi, before I'd buy any of the flavors available in US stores. Second choice would be a South Korean model.

When I look around my shop it's hard to find any tools not made in China.  I'm also happy with the quality of my two Chinese motorcycles.

Whilst not perceived as a Chinese brand, I'm pretty certain that all Apple products (iPhones, iPads, Macbook etc.) are made in China.

I agree, lots of Chinese made stuff around that works and lasts as well as american/european made.

You can buy Chinese junk just as you can buy American made (labeled) junk.

It is all about the quality control of the company.  Some invest a lot of time and effort in that area and have quality products.  Others send drawings and specs to China and take what they get in return.  Some Harbor Freight power tools for example.

Others end up being cheap because they don't insist on a quality finish that has nothing to do with the function of the product.

These days I don't really care where it is made, as long as it is works well.

How much quality has to be built in to pass the Federal 6 foot drop test?  The name seems to go on before the quality goes in.
