Metal on metal trunk mount protection-2001EV
« on: January 17, 2017, 12:09:44 PM »
I just installed a trunk on my 2001EV.
The trunk mount mounts in direct contact with the existing luggage rack.
Metal on metal.
Any reason to put something in between the metal on metal?
Thanks,
Brent

Ummm... If your worried about the chrome to chrome contact and want to keep your chrome like new. Then maybe a non marring spacer like wood or plastic or ?? might help.

My HB trunks mount is mounted chrome to chrome on my '04 Cali Touring. I think it came from the factory that way????

Hope this helps,

If it is bolted, then nothing is really required.  But, if you want to protect the finish of either then get a piece of UHDPE.  Those plastic cutting boards are made of that stuff but you can find it in thinner pieces.

Get you a car tire tube and cut you the appropriate size and put it in between the two parts. This not only protects the two services it isolates the viberation. Problem solved:)

I always got to the local hardware store, buy a piece of clear vinyl hose the right diameter. Cut it and split it, and slip that over the chrome rack before bolting on the brackets/plate/etc.

Probably not needed, but I just do.
