Distinguished Gentlemans Ride
« on: September 09, 2016, 09:18:07 AM »
May I suggest this charity ride?
http://www.gentlemansride.com
It is taking place in 2 weeks.

I've been to the Milano ride last year, and it has good fun (much crowded, though)

I've ridden my bike wearing my father's wedding suit...

Yes, I think many of us are in. :thumb:
I met a few Guzzists last year in the L.A. ride.
I raised $4k and was 3rd or 4th top fund raiser in my group!

Unfortunately the Norge does not meet their criteria for entry.

Last year they didn't strictly observe the rules which you read on the website (they didn't observe them at all...).
So the great majority was classic, but there were more modern bikes. I think nobody would reject donations in favour of dress code.

The V7 & I joined up for the Canberra Ride.
Looking like it'll be the only Guzzi in the bunch.

Been tapping into my inner Hipster and getting the facial hair growing.
Not yet quite long enough to wax a twist in the mo, but some creative shaving should have me looking the part.

It's all for fun & charity.....and involves motorbikes. :bike-037:
Win, win & WIN.

I will be participating in the Nashville, Tennessee, ride. I'm riding in memory of my brother who died of prostate cancer in 2014 at age 62. He battled it four and a half years. He had never had a prostate exam, so the cancer was already spread into his bones when it was diagnosed.

My sponsorship page is here - https://www.gentlemansride.com/rider/decotriumph#ridesponsors

If you're not riding, consider sponsoring one of us who are riding. And get your prostate exam and PSA tests! It could save your life.

I've participated every year here in Cleveland.  We don't enforce the bike rules, but dress code is very important- and Fun!  Most of us thrift shop for a new outfit every year.  It's my favorite ride of the season because it's just plain fun.  No hotdogs or BS.  All there for a cause and to enjoy ourselves.  HIGHLY recommend you find the nearest ride and join in!

I hate riding without a helmet and only own a "racer" style helmets. Saving up for a Bell Bullitt retro helmet, but wont have it this month.  Would I be shunned??

I you go to the website, the planners (a group in Sidney) intend this to be for Vintage or New-vintage motorcycles and scooters.  They have guidelines of what bikes and scooters qualify.  I know we don't push it here, and have heard several other cities don't either.  As for dressing up, Yes!  But it doesn't have to be all that involved.  I've dressed for as little as $6 sport coat, tie and slacks from Goodwill.  As for safety gear, Helmets are never frowned upon.  I wear my helmet, boots and gloves.  Others wear their full gear while riding.  Again, it's more of an event.

I have done the DGR every year, and even though we ride through DC and Virginia, both with helmet laws, I have gotten away with wearing a leather helmet and goggles. I have also led the ride 3 years in a row, and I did one year on a California 1400. The bike isn't as important as the dress. Thrift store or goodwill is good because you stuff can get a bit shredded depending on the high speed sections. We avoid anything with a limit over 45, but clothes can still get beat up...

I'll either ride the Greenie or the EV.  I'll polish my boots with WD40 and wear a white shirt, jeans, 3/4 helmet, riding jacket and gloves.  If I can find a matching tie (like bright green), I might tie it loosely.   And of course, I'll have a cigar and stoker cap when I am not riding.

I am an ATGATT guy and won't change that for style.  I know my Team has three guys that wear kilts.

Didn't we just have a thread about riding in groups?  I think it's more important to be safe.

Start is at Ironwood in Westlake (right over the tracks on Dover from Bay).  I'll be on my '14 Stone, it's the white one with HB hard bags.  Hope you make it, you can always ride the Duc!  Map of route is on the Cleveland page.

This is my first time participating.

Sourced a tweed jacket from a local 'Op Shop' for 8 bucks

Got a bow tie & accessories for cheap off eBay (had to have red suspenders, right  :thumb: )

Cuff links of course.

Grown a mo - may have gone a bit astray on this one....

And a 'Gentleman' needs a walking stick so I made one.
Need to figure out a safe way to fit it to the bike.
Maybe a leather shotgun type holster on the side.
(If I can't attach it safely I won't take it)

It's all for fun and I raised $450!

Not sure how this will work my problem is I have to work 2nd shift that day.  I'll take a ride up to Charlotte, have lunch, and then ride straight to work.  Good news is that going to work on my Eldorado wearing a suite and tie is somewhat normal for me :-)
