Well, the wife's mother fell down the stairs last Friday.  Several hours in the emergency room.  Fortunately, she only suffered a bad gash on the back of her head which was patched up.  And I got the flu, likely from crowd of flu sufferers in the waiting room.

But I can't complain.  Got a good job, about 7 years from retirement.  My kids and grandkids are healthy.  I got a roof over my head and a full refrigerator.

Thanks for asking.  :thewife:

Oh you lucky man! I was in the jury pool the second half of 2016 but no summons. Must be living right.

Got a summons for jury duty..

Grand jury or trial jury?

If it's Grand Jury they'll take you but it only lasts a day or two.

No defense lawyer is going to let YOU serve on a trial jury!   (Mr. Hagan, Esq., can explain).

Still dealing with the SoCal back injury. Dave the doc gave me some drugs, said to get an MRI if I wasn't much better today. I'll be getting an MRI today. Called the jury duty lady and begged off.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a civic duty, and I wouldn't have minded going.  <shrug>

Oh, I always go ... served several times on a Grand Jury, always sent home from the "petit jury" selection process.

Gathering info on a possible HWY101/PCH roadtrip in late spring. Never been there.  Gathering info on retirement/ss/medicare/medigap/polligrip/AARP/motorhomes/bikes for sale, blah blah blah. OK. I'm surfing the webs.

Weather cloudy but fine, but evidently packing up in the evening so time for a ride. My mate was hiring a tractor to level his section, son had work booked in so I went for a ride by myself. Went to Akaroa, been there lots of times but it's not a bad ride. Got stuck behind Triffids on the way over but got past about 20 or so on one straight so things improved after that. Town was buzzing as there was a cruise ship in. Since the Christchurch harbour has yet to be put right after the 2011 earthquake the ships call in to Akaroa which is a deep natural harbour and ship people ashore in small boats. Nice cup of coffee and a muffin in my usual haunt, you get a good view of the harbour and you can keep an eye on the bike at the same time. A short walk and then back home. No great lines of Triffids this time and was able to pass no trouble. Did the rim road (the edge of an extinct volcano) on the way home where there are lots of corners and you get a good view of both the Canterbury plains and Lyttelton Harbour. Called in to see the son and grandson, they were just knocking off so i carried on home.

Bike purred like a kitten, always good when that happens. Nice day and a good ride. :thumb:

My then lady and myself once clocked up 150 miles getting to Akaroa from Christchurch by going round the coast and visiting all the inlets on the way. by the main road it's a 50 mile trip. My first time there. We were in a Ford Mk1 Cortina.  I don't remember the Rim Road you speak of though.

Goes from the top of Gebbies Pass and follows the old volcano rim and is actually part of the Summit Road. Used to be able to go all the way through to Sumner but that end is still closed due to rock fall danger, so now it is just back down Dyers Pass road which goes from Christchurch over to Goverors Bay.  Narrow in places but a nice ride. A lot of cyclists frequent it so it pays to be a bit cautious.

Oh I know the one. It was just part of the Summit road when I lived there.  Loaded the R3 with wine, glasses and pork pies and had a lovely picnic up there with my lady. We used the Sign of the Bellbird.

Not bad: thanks - got my wife's car inspected (passed), visited the library looking for fed and state (NY) tax forms (None to be seen), went and paid the property tax bill and enquired why the Library (public) was included in the school district bill which is separate from the  town bill which I just paid.  "Cause it has always been that way, only recently was it broken out as a separate item on that bill." was the reply.   The two, the school and the town property tax bill, are handled differently as to senior citizen, veterans, etc discounts (I am trying to save a few $ so I can get a two wheeled conveyance) Guzzi content.

If you saw the school districts map, compare it to the township map(s), then the village(s) maps you would marvel at the complexity of the system  undoubtedly devised to help me as a tax payer.

75 and decided to retire!

I worked for two years past our retirement age of 65; have had one year of full retirement and loving it. I am sure you will enjoy it Charles; I suspect that you will find yourself so busy that you will wonder how you managed to fit work in. :thumb:

A couple of weeks ago my wife and her three daughters went to the city for a night at the theater. It was our Christmas present to them. Anywho, somehow my wife dropped her new wool cap that I got her just a month ago. She thought she had it before we got back to our car and I know she had it as we left the theater.

I had gone back a couple days later, to the place where we had parked, a ritzy downtown hotel, and asked if anyone had found her cap but the gentleman at the desk said "no". I even went into the parking garage and looked around. No cap.

Today I was nearby the hotel so I went in to ask one more time if anyone had found my wife's turquoise woollen cap. This time there was a girl at the counter and she said "Yes". She went to a room behind the counter and came out with my wife's cap!

Hoorah!  Got me a kiss and a hug for that!!

Adopted Birdy, a 2 year old border collie mix today.  He somehow has a very gentle way about him, even though he went through hell from neglect.  Had a very good grooming at the Petco and now he looks like a show dog.  He's sleeping next to me as I write this.  So far, looks like we brought a good soul into the home.
