Rejoined the trike. Oleo Ranch Edition
« on: October 24, 2016, 11:47:06 AM »
Rejoined the trike on Sat PM.  Asie from spider webs, it's the same as I left it.  Spent Sun nursing a cold and tinkering with brakes and steering.  Still too head-coldy to ride, but should be better tomorrow.  Now the question is -- what direction do I go?  I have no destination and no agenda.  There's a rumor of warm weather and drought in OK, and another rumor of possible bikes needing work in ARK.  Or I could head for Charlie's shop and give him the $6 I owe him . . ..

Thoughts?

Follow the Great River road south? Then right up the Arkansas river to OK

That seems to be a natural way out.  :)

If you ever get to Central Virginia (only about 200 miles south of Antietam), there's a full shop, and a couple spare rooms and bathroom at your disposal for however long ....

Come visit Milwaukee before it gets too cold to consider it?
Got spare room for ya. Just starting planning trip to AK in July 17, so could use some advice.

No, I can't stay here that long (was supposed to be gone yesterday).  It puts stress on my daughter's household.  I need to get on with the endless ride.

I'll take a look at the weather maps and see if I can get around this lump of weather that's moving in tonight.  If I can cut east and make MI ahead of the cold that would be fun, and I can make Milwaukee part of the route.  I'd be happy to help plan an Alaska trip.

I appreciate that, Lannis.  I do want to get to Charlie's shop.  I told him I'd drop by and pay for something -- more fun than paypal, no matter how you think about it.  I've never been to Virginia, and this might be my only opportunity.  Do you folks get winter out there?

SOMEtimes we do, it's just not consistent.  A "typical" winter here in the Piedmont area would be 26 degF in the morning, 45 degF in the afternoon, and we might get 3 or 4 4" snowfalls in a year.

Twice in the last 25 years, we've had 35" of snow on the ground from two consecutive storms - shuts the whole region down for a week.    Twice it's gone to -5 degF and stayed below 15 degF for a week.

But that's not typical.   Last winter, it seldom went below 30 degF and you could ride every month.   So you rolls the dice and takes your chances ......

Kansas as a whole has a nice forecast for the next seven + days. Lows in the 40s & 50s and highs in the 70s and low 80s.

A couple of fun options here:

You could review our counsel and make your own decisions

We could bid for your company - highest ( or lowest ! ) bidder gets you

You could do a series of kickstarter initiatives that would facilitate your travels

You could just cut letters out of newspapers and paste them on a page with Guzzi-oriented manifestos

Well RK, I can't offer anything that sounds half as cool as Slapout or Intercourse, but if you ever do make it across the water you can stay over in Hamburg. (Apologies for the boring name!)

You could spice it up a bit by directing him to Rimsting, Lederhose, Titting, or maybe over to Austria for a visit to f***ing .....

By "MI," do you mean the great state of Michigan? If you find yourself north of the Detroit area - specifically Rochester - I'd very much encourage you to drop a line, a PM or message by pigeon. There's space for bikes and bikers available as well as nourishment, beverages, and other measures of hospitality.

RK - If you are headed this way I can offer a room for a night in Dillsburg, PA with food, laundry, and shower at price any self-respecting Guzzista would pay (i.e., free). The food is plain, the beer swill, and womenfolk off-limits, but the sheets are clean and we can park your trike in the garage next to my Stone for the night. Moto Guzzi, HD, and Yamahonki dealers are all within 30 minutes if needed. It's about 85 highway miles from my place down to Antietam Classic Cycle's front door.

Weather here is "getting colder" per the locals. Currently, days are in the mid-50s and nights about 40 degrees (f)...and falling. We often see a few flurries in early/mid November and the plow trucks will start making their rounds sometime in mid/late December.  I have a "must do" on Sunday morning, October 30th, but otherwise can be available.
