A few have asked me more about ACF-50.
Here's a primer-pardon the pun.

It is good stuff, been using it for years. :thumb:

Here is a comparison done by the National Aging Aircraft research program of 10 anti corrosion products including AFC-50 and others.

It's great stuff. I use it on brake pins(being super careful to keep it off the pads and rotors) and lower running gear. There's a ton of salt still on the roads in the Spring here. It's hell on fasteners.

Looks like good stuff for your Aging Aircraft made of aluminum but I'll stick with my Petroleum jelly for battery terminals and contacts LOL
Seriously, it does look like it would be good for spraying over the bike to ward off salt corrosion this time of year.

Actually I'm in the middle of a casual test of ACF-50, WD 40, motor oil, and several other lubes. In Nov I coated several nails and put them out in my yard. I'll photograph the results and post it. I was going to wait until the end of March, but I'll take look after work to see how it's progressing.

MCN did a teat like that not to long ago.
-
I use it on all the bare aluminum on all my bikes, my 72 Eldorado has had it on for four years and the aluminum is holding up like the day I cleaned / polished it.

Quick question - does it "set up" hard, or does it stay liquid, or tacky, so that it would hold dust & road grime?
Thanks-

It stays liquid-like but not tacky. I wipe it on, because excess does pool.

So where do you purchase this stuff?
I prefer to go to a brick & mortar store if that's an option.
Update
In Vancouver it's available at Aviall near YVR, not a retail store they only take credit

I had to buy mine on Amazon. I use it mainly for electrical connections, although sometimes I use Ox-guard instead.

For Canadians there is an Ebay seller in Ontario that sells it by the gallon for a reasonable price.
I think its the same folks that sell carburetor rebuild kits. ACF 50 eventually dries and just has a clear finish.
Most aircraft maintenance supply stores sell it as well.

Any results? We're talking about ACF-50 again .....

I use it mostly to keep my PTO couplers from corroding, but it works great on motorcycle wheels, too.
-
Love that stuff, I took a bath in it the other day.

I like the way CorrosionX smells better.
....seems in the Av community it’s a Ford v Chevy kind of thing. Awaiting Chuck in Indiana to vote. I always go by what he says

This stuff was developed for aircraft mainly and I have used it on all my vehicles (rolling) and aircraft.
Really is nothing better.
IMHO
When it's applied to aircraft, how is that done? Is it OK if it gets on doped fabric surfaces, or paint (although I know there's not much paint on the usual airplane)?
Do you apply it the same way to a motorcycle? Motorcycles and airplanes share a lot of commonality; reliability and weight-concern being two exceptions ....

Based on the decay rate shown on page 5, ACF 50 only appears to about halve the corrosion rate of bare metal. This is nothing to write home about. I use ACF 50 but it appears there are WAY better products to use than ACF 50.
But given how hard it is to find ACF 50, I won't bother even looking for the others.
It would have been nice if they had WD40 in their test. It couldn't have performed much more poorly than ACF 50.

It's seems people around here like to use Fluid Film on vehicles and other stuff subject to road deicing chemicals...

Not withstanding the data sheets, I run a heavy duty snowplow all winter. WD 40 won't last a day against the salt brine a plow lives in. ACF-50 lasts at LEAST 3 months in an environment a motorcycle will never see. If you don't thing plowing will eat thru anything including powder coated steel think again. ACF-50 lasts and works. Other stuff may, too, but I have no empirical knowledge of that. I do know that at the end of every season my stuff looks perfect and the others guys-well, not so much.
YMMV, your opinion MV, your experience MV. My conclusions are based on Western new York winters, and I've been running a plow for 37 years now.

I'm going to get some and start using it on stuff.
