Looking at a 2001 Quota

I saw a Red Quota listed here for $3000 with 41k. Gonna ride and inspect it Friday
Will be my 3rd Guzzi if I get it. Seem like a fair deal as it’s been cared for. What do you all think?

Great bike. Simple. Powerful enough. Good handling. Robust.

with 41k I'll say the price of $3,000 is on the high end.. being the bottom feeder type I would want it for $2200 especially without the HB saddlebags.

Looks like some type of luggage just a bit on the edge of the picture. Also looks like a different exhaust. Wasn't that model suppose to have some computer recall? Otherwise check for maintenance records, and rim cracks.
Other Quota owners will know best as to the value. Personally I like them. Good luck.

There's may be some information regarding tuning that is worth reading first.
I have read some statements regarding this topic for Quota's but don't presume to understand. I would keep a close eye on the bike, but wait a couple of days if you can bear it..

Talked to the owner, he got it 14 months ago from Iowa. Had a PC111 in it? Then took it out then
He adjusted the ECU and got it running smoothly. Fred Sahms said watch out for cracked crossover
And rims. Owner said he was going to put petcock son and redo fuel hoses but he said it’s to top heavy for him moving around. May be it has issues he doesn’t want to tackle. Hard to find a Guzzi
Tech here in Knoxville since Fred doesn’t work on them for others. There’s a guy in Central Va
Randy’s Cycles. I can do some stuff myself, question always is home much is there to do.
He also replaced drive box. There’s a lot of good info on the Quota thread on Advrider.com

Can't say for sure from the picture, but it looks like a different exhaust.

Just bought a Quota in black from IA in July.  54k on the clock.  Good rubber.  Looks like it has way fewer miles as previous and only owner took amazing care of her.  Mistral y pipe and supertrapp muffler with originals included.  One rim replaced.  And an aftermarket windshield with the original included.

Really impressed with it.  Like mentioned earlier great handling.  Plenty of power.  My ECU had been upgraded and it really fuels nicely.  Love everything about it but the wind buffeting but I'm gonna work on improving that.

I paid 2000, and the guy had had it listed for a month before I saw it.

I'm on my second one and have logged about 60,000 quota miles.  Its the bike I grab first. I think three grand is more than reasonable for an amazing machine that will provide years of service and thrills.

Pay particular attention to wind noise and buffeting.

The pictured bike appears to have the Gustafsson wing deflectors, so the issues should be under control.

Always thought 2000 was the last year for the Quota (mine supposedly pictured here). Could be mistaken.
They are delightfully idiosyncratic and require some fettling and futzing to make them right to ride.

Quota 1100ES was year model 2000 only, in The USA.

Following this with interest because I am a closet Quota fan. I could dig into the archives, but I'll ask here: Just what is it about the Quota geometry or stock windshield/fairing that causes it's characteristic wind buffeting? Seems like something that should be easily fixed, but it appears to be a chronic problem that some can never bring into acceptability. My Cal 2 had a big problem, but a simple vertical adjustment fixed it. I admit that I've abandoned interest in a few that I would otherwise have pursued because of this.

Windshield/fairings are as different between riders as anything else on the motorcycle. What works for one may totally not work for another. Subtle differences in height, riding position, helmet fit and design, can cause major differences in perceived noise and buffeting. The stock Quota fairing was fairly noisy to me..of course I always wear ear plugs.. but there was no buffeting. It reminded me of the Centauro. It was pretty easy to live with. Buffeting, I can't live with. Because of that, I've never had a barn door windshield that I liked.
Let's talk helmets. Fit is super important with noise. For instance, one of the quietest helmets I've ever had was a $100 Bilt. (!) It just happened to fit my head shape perfectly.
Now, the helmet that was relatively quiet with the Mighty Scura was unacceptably loud on the Rosso Corsa.. same bike, different aerodynamics..so where the wind is coming from also makes a huge difference.
I've found that I prefer no windshield or a fly screen only. Others find something completely different.  There is no magic bullet.<shrug>

Funny you should mention the Bilt helmet, I bought a $150 Bilt full-face to be able to ride my LeMans (that nobody will buy), and it's my only frame of reference for riding this bike, and it's waaaaaay too loud for me. I discovered a large part of the high-frequency wind noise is coming from the faceshield hinge area, and I've seen a few full-face helmets with "cleaner"-looking hinge designs, but they're all over $500 bones and I ain't going to spend that on a helmet ! <snapping suspenders!>

But back to the Quota....agreed, everyone's ergos are different, but there MUST be something inherent in the Quota fairing that either creates an inordinate amount of noise, or directs dirty airflow right at a rider's head. I am gun-shy now of owning one unless I could take it for a good highway ride first.

The fairing funnels air up the sides of the fuel tank and into the bottom of the rider's helmet.

Gustafsson made side deflectors that mount to the two bolts on the side of the tank that fix this, for most people.

It's a good example of a fairing where the design looks great, but the designer must have never ridden the bike.  I've ridden a lot of bikes a lot of miles, and the Quota 1100 ES that I owned was the worst for buffeting of any motorcycle I've ever ridden.

That being said, if you can tweak the wind management to tolerable, the Quota is also a pretty kick-ass all-around motorcycle.

I'm 6'4 and long of torso. I've never noticed any buffeting or wind issues. I also lean forward with an aggressive posture.

Doesn't seem like an unfair price.  Can't tell for certain, but it looks like the maybe the Parebellum windscreen?  The least favorite of the windscreens that I've used on any of my Quotas. But that is easy to deal with.  As far as air buffeting goes, I've gone with just throwing a set of the Aerostich tank panniers on all mine.  Same idea as the Gustaffson wings.  I can pack my tools and other heavier items when on a long trip.  Gets some weight off of the back end, which makes it handle better.
I'd buy it.
