A bit of a re-hash
« on: September 22, 2018, 03:54:38 AM »
The topic of how my '07 Norge has been improved by the installation of Beetle's map and Roper tune, has been well documented on these pages.
No one will disagree..
However here's the thing.
On my trip today and countless others before, I read the litres/100 k on the averager and compared it to the calculated result.
The trip was at 100-120 kph and some brief excursions to 160.
A bit of a flog up Mt Macedon and cruise back up the freeway @ 110 k's.
My averager showed 4.7 l/100 K and my calculation of 8.7 litres for 191 km gives 4.5 l/100 k.
How does this compare with other 2 VPC Norges that have had the same re-map and decent tune ?
My mate on his BMW R1100S is perplexed as to how my bike is MARGINALLY slower to 160 kph than his, yet the Beemer sucks gas like a Top Fueller by comparison.
His took 11 litres versus 8.7 for identical distance/speed.
Could you guys do the math regarding conversions of MPG to Litres/100 k ?

Is he still running the original CL map? If so, if it's similar to the MM system, and to the best of my knowledge they are peas in a pod, it will go rich as soon as the go handle is twisted beyond 110-120kph cruising.

I'm buggered if I know Peter.
It has a thing called Techlusion or some such. There are a few little pleasure buttons you can twist on a module thingy under the seat, to apparently richen the mixture at various facets of it's rev range, but it all smacks of jingoistic nonsense to me.
I had a "power commander" on mine once and it was nothing short of unadulterated garbage and I'm secretly embarrassed that I fell so readily for the thinly veiled bullshit line I was spun...
'Thought I had more sense, but there you go.

4.6l / 100km = 51 mpg, splitting the difference.

Just ask google to do this when needed:

OK Google
Convert 4.6 liters per hundred kilometers to mpg

Huzo,

On my 2008 2V Norge, with a Beetle Map designed for the Agostini after market exhaust pipe, I'm getting 42 mpg on regular runs.  I had an early map from Beetle that was a bit leaner, and would deliver 44 mpg, but it was too lean for my taste on throttle response, so we found a sweet middle ground.

Yeah that's about what mine does including some city running and country touring.
Of course like any one else, it will get stuck in above 140 k's but I rarely do sustained speeds like that in Oz.
There was that one time in Germany though... :copcar: :embarrassed:
