Need help, need parts ASAP.
« on: August 29, 2016, 02:24:19 PM »
Coles notes version:

My wife has spent a LOT of time planning a trip for us and my buddy, routes, stays, everything, from top to bottom, going as far as to schedule my vacation time with my boss. My buddy has rearranged his holiday plans to make it happen. We're set to leave this Friday morning.

...and I've blown a base gasket on my '15 V7 Special.

I desperately need parts #:

B063099  Head/cylinder packing

886670  Crankcase/ cylinder packing

And I need them over-nighted to me, by the fastest carrier possible. Can someone suggest a vendor that can meet my needs? Please... it'll break her heart if we have to cancel this.

Thank you.

AF1 Racing, a Guzzi parts dealer in Austin, TX, has both of those parts in stock.  $17.11 for one, $11.27 for the other, US dollars.  Enter you part number in the part number search box at the top of this page, you will see them.  Then call the shop, maybe they can get them out the door today and into your hands ASAP.  And if I were you, I'd order 2 of each, because I would screw up at least one of them somehow!!

Good luck!

If you explain the circumstances, any U. S. dealer can overnight.  Moto International was able to send parts to me at John Day, the last time there was National there.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉

More-

Moto International in Seattle is probably closer to you than any so far, call them, see if they have parts in stock.

MG Cycle showed the first one, but not the second part.  www.mgcycle.com/  South central Wisconsin.

That's Edmonton, isn't it?  There's a dealer there (or at least there is one on record):

If you are ordering from the US to Canada, make sure you DO NOT use UPS. Their customs clearance process is all in Winnipeg and takes at least an extra day or two compared to FedEx or other carriers.

I lived in Edmonton (Mount Pleasant area, mostly) for more than 25 years and found this out (repeatedly) over the years.

I've taken a scattergun approach... ordered from Guzzitech  and AF1.

Scheduled to arrive Wednesday, but I've got my doubts. Fingers crossed.

Thanks all.

Base gasket or leaking breather? I'm betting its not the gasket.

I'll take that bet.

The base gasket on the left side is blown. My bike, my eyes, on the lift, mechanic to back me up... base gasket is blown.

How? I don't know. But it's leaking oil and getting worse, rapidly. Gone from a slight weep to a full on leak.

Chiming in just to make sure I don't miss the final diagnosis of this.  It will be interesting to hear what could happen to cause an undisturbed base gasket to blow.  Shouldn't be much pressure there and the thing is clamped rather securely in place.
I believe you, I am just curious as to what could make this happen.

I'm with you. All I can think is a faulty gasket, though why it would appear at around 17,000 km makes no sense to me.

Base gaskets are rather simple and could be hand cut from like thickness generic gasket material if necessary, yes?

Not if you don't want it to leak. I believe the's an o-ring required as well if you're tugging the barrel.

Well the last "base gasket" leak I saw on a Guzzi turned out to be crankcase porosity. When you say "blown" does that mean a piece of the gasket has come adrift and is missing/displaced?

I have to say I'm deeply skeptical about the base gasket theory as well but the OP seems certain. Thing is if the heads hadn't been retorqued early on and a gasket started to weep I'd honestly expect it to be a head rather than a base gasket that would cause issues....

Good luck.
