replacement rubber for EV chrome

Anyone got a good substitute for the cheap rubber edging used on the chrome pieces on the EV ?


I'm referring to the pieces in front of the gas tank and over the shocks.

Hi  Tom, go to Mc Master carrs website ,look up rubber  edge trim. measure what you have and match it up with mc master stuff, they have many different dimensions . I have ordered some many years ago ,to replace the stuff on my cali aluminum. I used weatherstripping adhesive from 3M to keep it in place.

Don't look too closely at my bike.  You might see electrical tape :)

For those neck pieces, I polished them up and threw away the old rubber trim. They look fine.

MG Cycle sells it if I remember right. If they have it, a bike shop near you might as well. Also check for an industrial parts supplier, like McMaster. There must be a supplier where you are at. In a pinch, some small rubber vacuum tubing slit to open it might look OK.

There are two grades of that edge molding -- a stiffer, vinyl, and a more pliant rubbery type that goes around corners better.  I don't have a source for the good stuff (pliant) right now, but do consider the grade that you're replacing and try to match it.  I did the stiffer stuff and mine keep slowly coming off.

I just installed a accessory plug on the handle bars. The route for the wires takes it behind the chrome piece in front of the tank. There will be a little bit of a pinch there, that is why I need the rubber trim.

Besides the rubber trim to keep from cutting, put a spacer/washer on the upper mounting screw between the cover and the frame to hold the chrome cover out a bit. Did this on my bike to give a cable a bit more movement.
