Autobahn Madness

http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Y2HKBQMQmbw#t=116.     The speedometer is visible just over the center of the steering wheel and a bit to the right. The highest I saw it register was 280 kilometers per hour (@174 mph)

That driver got real close to the bikes on several occasions.  I bet the driver had WAY better skill than most US drivers do.  The part about high speed driving that would take time getting used to is the stopping.  You double your and you quadruple your stopping distance.  All it takes is a little too late a braking maneuver and you slam into that guy in front of you.

I am simply not a big money guy and a V-10 Supercar is just a fantasy.  Ironically I'd rather ride a bike at speed like that than drive a car.  You can get between vehicles if needed and don't need as much width to run off the road should that be needed.

That was crazy but cool.

Totally uncool, he endangered everyone on that road, despite his perceived "skill" level.  Deserves nothing less than a good roadside batoning by the po and seizure of his €150 k car.

From what I saw, they should all be barred from playing in traffic, period. The Audi guy is an idiot.

I've seen the results of high speed crashes first hand on German autobahns. They look like missile strikes with debris strewn for hundreds of yards in all directions. Just seeing the aftermath is scary enough.

Autobahn it's not. What made anyone think so?
I'm pretty certain we've had a thread about this very video before, and it was concluded this is Brazil  -  as it says on Youtube, and is indicated by subtitles, roadsigns and so on.

On the Autobahn it is illegal to pass using the right lanes.  It is also illegal to drive in the left lanes if you are slower than any traffic around you.  On the autobahn all three would have been arrested and rightly so.

Exactly! Drivers simply don't hang out in the left line on the Autobahn like they are in this video. I wish those laws applied everywhere in the US as well, it's not only much safer, but much nicer to drive like that.

I've actually driven a similar Audi R8 V10 on the German autobahn, a guy I know has one and let me drive it.   As I remember I had it up to something like 230 km/hr or 145 mph, which is the fastest I've driven a car.  At that speed the R8 is basically nonplussed, but that's irrelevant on a packed road like this one in Brazil, especially if racing motorcycles.  Driving at that speed is something to take seriously.  This guy is an idiot. The guys in street clothes riding fast motorcycles are equally disconnected from reality, althoughly seemingly slightly less so than the Audi moron.  Other people on the road deserve respect, including when going fast, and putting them in serious danger is not in any way justified.

BTW unless you can and do go very fast an R8 is a waste of time, it's not a terribly charismatic or exciting car.  It works without fuss and goes very fast, but it's not exotic feeling and not how I'd spend a lot of money to have fun.

As others have said, it is Brazil. CCR Autoban (sign near the toll) runs highways near Sao Paulo.

The whole thing is mental.
