Wheel Balancer from Marc Parnes
« on: April 23, 2018, 09:44:29 AM »
Hi,

Thumbs up on my wheel balancer from Marc Parnes

 http://www.marcparnes.com/

I ordered the balancer for Moto Guzzi use   :)

Worked like a charm on my EV, IV Lemans and yesterday completed my Breva 1100.

Can't beat the price and quaility!

I made two of the same basic design - one for myself and the other for Greg Bender. $30 in materials and and hour of lathe time.

I've had a stand for quite a while but was going to get this --http://www.marcparnes.com/ScrewsInstalled.JPG

But decided I didn't want to do other tires anymore.

I've also used Marc Parnes' balancer for many years. All though I won't change tires any longer I mark the heavy spot on the rims, for the pros. I admit to, @ one times, owning bmw's w/single side swing arms. Marc may have been the 1st to offer a 'big hole' adapter.  R3~

As a aside, where is a place where you can order the old fashioned lead spoke weights nowadays? My source no longer carries them in lead.

Not a problem on the rear wheel of the Breva 1100.
Good on you, glad (but surprised), that it went well.

I clamp the axle very tightly in my vise, put a level on it, then slide the wheel on and balance. No money.

and how would you do that with the rear wheel on a Breva 1100?

Honestly I have no doubt if you say so, it's just that I wouldn't have laid money on it.
The old machinist on me tends to think that spinning the wheel on the face it was designed to go on is the best way to go, but clearly your method is ok.
Good on you.
I've a feeling that I have posted this before, but if not, this was my solution.

You wouldn't bloody well believe it, but old mate Baz's R 1100 S wheel is a perfect fit in the register and the bolts do up perfectly.
I wonder if the guts of the final drive of the Beemer and Norge are produced in the same factory ?
The fit was as if it was machined to suit.

The piece of round bar is to slide the front wheel onto so it can be checked for true and balance.
The  two bits of angle are to clamp a pointer to, for use when trueing the wheel.
The principle is to mount the wheel on the flange and spin it on it's own centre like when it's in the bike.
