If you paid attention you noticed I only used 4 gears. I used a convert (read very tall) rear end, and 4th was exactly where I wanted my top gear.

Even though I had hot cams, porting etc, that motor was set up as a torque monster for road racing. It topped out at ~7950 RPM in top gear (would easily pull higher in lower gears). To get the most out of that motor for land speed racing, I should have retarded the cam about 2 or 4 degrees, or frankly as much as I could before things began to smack inside the combustion chamber. No doubt an LSR specific cam would be even better. The way I determined my max RPM? Since the Tach is only so good, and I'm not looking at it anyway, I pulled the audio from the videos and did a spectral analysis on it, revealing revs per second. Easily converted to RPM...
