Guzzidiag cable issue - possible short V7 Classic
« on: August 15, 2018, 09:04:47 PM »
Hooked up my loneloc cable to reset my tps this evening and had the battery connectors backwards (stupid mistake) I removed them when it started sparking. I then put the cables on correctly and ran through the backup and tps reset.

Now when I turn the key over I’m getting all kinds of clicking noise from a relay type thing above the ecu. The bike won’t even try to turnover.. Did I short something? Battery is good.

Really need to sort this ASAP as I’m headed on a bike trip Friday.
Any help would be appreciated

I think you need a new set of cables to start off with. Then you need to reset the bike. My set has a blue lite that comes on. That adapter is most likely fried. AND it reset the bike wrong or some such thing.
I'm no expert on the subject, but seen things go bad before. I'd start over.

Everything connected properly after. I was able to back up my current map and save on my computer and I was also able to reset the TPS.

The issue was when I went to start the bike and the clicking noise as soon as the key is turned??

My guess is that the battery has flattened while you were using the Guzzidiag.
This may be just a normal Guzzi relay rattle when the battery is low.

I put the battery on my charger and it’s fully charged, which rules out a dead battery

Stumped here...

Don't know much about your bike but you refer to clicking from a relay type thing. I would suspect the relay type thing.

Thanks all for the advice. I got my problem sorted!

Took my bike to Corsa Meccanica here in Toronto, and they checked the entire charging system. Turns out the short fried my older battery (5yrs). It was showing charged, but would not do much with the bike. A quick check of the regulator, new battery install and the bike is running great.

The wife and I took a trip to Manitoulin Island this past weekend and my bike ran great. Her Suzuki TU250 as well.

George and the team at Corsa are great and helped me in a pinch

And a good tip for everyone: batteries can show plenty of charge but have little in cranking power, especially with today's picky ignition systems...always have a suspect battery load-tested and make the battery your #1 suspect when troubleshooting and 'new' does NOT equal 'good'...

I'll take this opportunity to repeat the advice I've gotten on that lonelec cable -- remove the ground (black) pigtail with the alligator clip.  The cable grounds through the big plug and does not need it.  Removing it prevents this scenario.  If you are reluctant to cut it, tape it back so you don't accidentally connect it.

All good advice. We've seen this several times. "Oh, the battery is fine. I've had it on a tender all Winter.."
