You probably can't afford it...love the original non restored patina. Really needs a meticulous cleaning and he would get an extra $5k out of me, sucker that I am...

Alce 57????? I haven't got my reference books readily available and looking at the bike its earlier than 57 which would be correct for an Alce, I'd expect a touring bike of 57 to be a GTV or something similar. TBH the price itsn't stupidly out of range although as I guess with half the board expecting everything to be 50cents when they buy it and $50 000 when they sell it it probably is.

Just had a look at the photos, exposed valve springs 57 more likely 37 IMO.

Super Alce. The year is likely correct.

Looks correct to me,

This mid 50's example was brought out to a summer show our local vintage bike group sponsored, it's from a regional transportation museum in the Province, Listening to it run was a real treat, effortless slow revolutions with the exposed valve springs dancing along

Beautiful bike. Reading comments like "if he cleaned it up, I'd pay $5000 more" makes me realize that perhaps I exist in a different demographic than some folks on here.

Cool looking bike.  Bet it needs a new condenser in the mag

Italian tax disk seems to show 1975.  Apologies for the cynicism but I'd bet it was bondoed and painted in Italy then sold to someone in the USA in 1982 and wouldn't run well so parked.

so I'm curious of a couple things? first is the 2nd lever on the clutch side of the bars? second is the brake pedal is a heal toe? how exactly does that work?

But after a coating of wax and just ride it to lunch on sunny weekends.

2nd lever is a compression release, the brake is applied with the heel of the foot instead of the toe.

Heel-toe foot lever is for the gear shift on the right side.  Left foot brake is heel only.  Takes getting used to.

ALCE had an E-O-I engine with only the exhaust valve in the head.  Produced until 1945.
SUPERALCE had a dual overhead valve engine for a whopping 3 more horsepower.  Produced from 1946 through 1957.
Both had three features unique to these models.  First was a Mono/Bi flip lever under the right side of the engine.  It preloaded the sprung rear suspension to allow for carrying a passenger.  Second was a second set of folding handlebars between the seats so that soldier #2 didn't have to hug soldier #1.  Third was a pawl ratchet on the rear wheel drive sprocket so the bike would not roll backward if you were trying to climb a steep slope.   You could keep both feet on the ground without worrying about braking for back roll.
Many Guzzi singles had left heel braking.  All 500cc had an exhaust lift decompression lever on the left handlebar.
The GTV mentioned above was contemporaneous with and preceded the ALCE.
ALCE is the European Elk.
Just found a few other items.  The wheels are identical.  The wheels unbolt from the brake hubs or drive sprocket so that either wheel can be used fore or aft.  Easier field repair.
This particular one is unique in that it has the clamp mounting for a carbine rifle.  The right leg shield has a small, hollow cylinder to receive the barrel tip.  The clamp for the rifle stock is just behind and below the pilot seat on the right side like this:
