Antique bike need satisfied
« on: October 15, 2018, 12:17:32 PM »
Well. there has been a resurgence so to speak for antique bikes in my area. The club, Rocket Coast Chapter, Florida has almost all Harley's and Indians. so i could not have that so. LET ME SAY, I could not find a nice Guzzi in my price range near me so I went back to the dark side and got  a 1975 BMW R90.

Let the games begin.

Respectfully
Micky

"Vintage" or "Classic", but not "Antique", IMO.

Here a motorcycle can be registered as an "Antique" when it is twenty-five (25) years and older.  I agree that the '75 is more "Vintage" than "Antique" however, I do not make the rules in this state, I do register two as antiques, a '75 Triumph Trident and an '88 Honda Hawk GT.  The little '82 V65 could also.

What  gorgeous Airhead, have fun with it.

Here in AZ you can get a "Historic" plate at 25 years.  I feel there should be more to it that just age. I don't see the Historic significance of a 1993 Honda Civic.

Congrats!
Airheads are great bikes.    I love my two, an R90S and R75/5 (same color as your R90/6).

Having vintage plates come with restrictions.   Cops would probably pull over a 25 year old civic and question the owner about using it to commute instead of car shows.

My "OLD bike". Not a recent picture as it is a bit better now. The front twin leader is original.

Now, we're talking..  :thumb: I really had the hots for one when I was a kid. Fortunately, I couldn't afford one, because I wasn't a good enough mechanic to keep one running..

Man, that Velocette is a great looking single.

Went to a nearby cafe-rocker themed event last spring.  An older gentleman had what he said was the very last Thruxton built.

In the Antique Motorcycle Club of America (AMCA) it's an antique at 35 yrs old.  In My state you can get a "Classic" plate at 20 yrs old.  My Airhead a 76 is classed as a antique by the AMCA but really I think its too reliable for an antique.

Having had motorcycle with antique plates yes there are restrictions but they are not enforced.

Like a lot of rules and laws, they are enforced when the officer pulls you over for other reasons.  I would think that if a clerk was doing his/her job they would be hard pressed to issue a restricted plate to a Honda Civic.

Seem to remember in 1991 that most folks as old as we are now (most of us anyway) didn't consider a 1966 Generator Shovelhead an antique either

They're really not that bad. You just have to get used to their foibles and there are a few. Probably the most British British bike and I made my dad happy when I got my first one (A 53 Mac).

I was at AMCA run in September. There were 100 bikes (mostly H-D) in the parking lot of the motel. In the morning before the events, there were 100 guys tinkering with the bikes. Wanted to make sure they would start/run 100 miles. Or maybe they just couldn't help themselves. Some beautiful machines though.
