1983 SPNT SOLD
« on: April 26, 2018, 05:45:06 PM »
Selling my old faithful SP. See craigslist link for details and pictures. I have a LONG history with this bike, many years, miles and smiles. I sold it a few years ago and thought it had made it's way to New Zealand only to see it on ebay last fall. I couldn't resist the pull of nostalgia and bought it back only to find that it just doesn't fit my nearly 70 year old bod. Too bad, it's a wonderful machine.

Was the lightened flywheel worth it?

IMHO, yes. Makes shifting much smoother and less stressful. Also, pulls much stronger, less inertia to overcome. Conversely, engine breaking is not as pronounced but not by much. Of course, to be honest, this is all "seat of the pants", but I had logged 30 K miles before the change and had a good point of reference.

Beautiful SP with great modifications.  I used one as a sidecar rig a number of years back, worked well.   If I was a few years younger I would jump at the chance for a nice SP like this one.  GLWS

Beautiful bike!

Ronkom was over to the house yesterday, and we were looking over my '83 red-and-white SP with 41,000 miles on it (which is on the bench for a clutch).   Mine doesn't have the fairings or instrument panel, so it's more of a G5 now I suppose, but ....

... I was telling him that I'd love to have a fully equipped SP just like it, and when my Stelvio is done (it has about 50,000 on it but might go a long time) I'm going to make an SP my main touring bike again.

I wish the timing were better, but someone is going to enjoy a very nice Guzzi there!

Yup.   Wish I could "buy it and hold it" until there was room in my shop and riding life, but I've done too much of that already ...

Good looking bike.  Good luck with the sale.  Would hate to see that bought and someone cafe it.  :undecided:

Steve,
Just lurking on the list and thought your SP was worth a look as an SP was my first Guzzi. Great looking bike and the SP is a very well designed outfit. What also caught my attention is your location of Unity Maine. I wouldn't guess a lot of Guzzi riders have been there but I spent a year at Unity College back in 76-77, first year of college. Took a bike trip there a year later and got to see Johnny Winter at the Red Door (Barn)?Been a lot of years since I've been back that way, but very good memories.

That’s a great bike and deal. I’d take that over a new Guzzi any day.

This is a fine example of a well-cared-for 80's-vintage Tonti upgraded to considerably better-than-new configuration.  Perfect!  Outstanding bike at a fair price....
