HELP!! where to buy clutch lever plunger and set screw?????
« on: September 07, 2017, 01:32:03 PM »
Is that set screw to loosen in order to adjust the travel plunger on the clutch lever in or out, on 2013 Stelvio like a one mm size or so?  I cant figure out what size allen wrench fits in that very small set screw there with the gunk etc being present.  Anybody know for sure?  I tried what I have in stock but no luck.  I must be missing a very small allen wrench of some size.......

Well, after trying to loosen the set screw(1.5mm) allen wrench from the clutch lever for like six hours all I ended up with was a stripped head allen screw.  Now I guess my option is to drill out the old set screw to remove the plunger arm and then install a new plunger arm and new set screw.

Any ideas where I could buy one of each?  Harpers??  (2013 Stelvio, that had the incredible Hulk attach the set screw in the first place)

1.5mm is what works on my Norge, and I believe it's the same part for almost all hydraulic clutch Guzzis.

Use some solvent on the screw - it's best to prop the lever up where the solvent can work its way down into the threads of the set screw and leave them soaking for some time. You can use a solvent specifically for loosening bolts or machine screws, or (since loctite is acrylic-based) even acetone (nail polish remover). If you use heat, make sure you are heating JUST what you want to; this can be done using a pencil-tip soldering iron rather than a larger heat source.

It is not easy. It took me about a day with several attempts and patient soaking.

Soaked for 24 hours now in PB Blaster.  Heating and tried torx bit.  No Luck yet.........Wow, that thing is in there!    Probably going to have to drill it out and try to find a vendor that sells them and buy a new one.....

I had difficulty removing the screw on my Stelvio, and to have spares sourced a pack of 50 very cheaply from a Chinese vendor.
Gave half of them to the local Guzzi specialist, but still have plenty. If you don't mind the wait for the mail from Western Australia, pm me your address and I'll send a couple, free to a deserving home.
cheers, Fred
