Will shocks from a Sportster fit a Jackal?
« on: June 23, 2018, 08:54:21 AM »
Looking for some advice from y'all. I have a chance to buy some fairly good rear shocks at a good (dirt cheap) price. They are the proper length for my Jackal, new and a quality brand name. They, however, were on a Sportster for a short time. My question is will shocks that fit a Sportster fit a Jackal? Are the fittings/bushings etc compatible? Anyone know if they will bolt on or is it more involved or a no go? Thanks amigos.

Well, a buddy of mine got two sets of Road King air shocks last winter. He put one set on his Sportster and they fit perfectly. He gave me the other set since one of the shocks on my California had developed a leak.

Length wise, the fit was great. The issue was that the eyes on the shocks were half inch (12.7mm) while the studs on the Guzzi are 10mm. Also, the eyes are about 3/16 inch wider than the studs are long. So, not an easy retrofit, but it can be done. Having a metal lathe in my garage helped a lot.

I had a pair of Road King air shocks on my 02 Stone.
There was a bushing kit from Harley that took care of the difference of the stud diameters, I don't remember the specifics.
If you have access to a lathe or someone who does, making a set of bushings would be a simple operation.
