Gaiters

I’m working on an R100rs for my Big Retirement Trip to Alaska.  As I read about the troubles others have had on the Alaska and Yukon roads, I’m thinking that fork gaiters would be a good idea.  Particularly since a fork seal on my V11 Ohlins bike is leaking oil on my shop floor as I am writing this. Why have the manufacturers abandoned gaiters?  Is it only a cosmetic thing?

Other than the Dempster Highway from Dawson City to Tuktoyuktuk and parts of the Top of the world highway from Dawson City to Tok Alaska the roads are paved and In good shape. There are some other gravel roads but most people heading to Alaska won’t be near them. The Alaska highway is not the torturous route it used to be. You will be surprised how good the road is and how many gas stations there are. The towns are very motorcycle friendly.

I use NOJ fork guards that are removable...so you can actually keep things clean and see if you have a problem/leak. I use these on all 3 of my Guzzi's.

On regular forks I just use the normal gaiters, I usually get something from a dirt bike, cut them down and secure them with Jubilee clips

On upside down forks I use Kriega's fork gaiters, very similar to flower_king001's gaiters, I don't know if these are easy to get in the US or not

flower_king's suggestion looks good too for conventional forks

I have Ohlin's on the Ducati and they are notorious for bursting seals, I had to replace them on mine after 4 years and very little miles, since fitting the Kreiga gaiters no problems

I’ve had a pair of these on my Hinckley Bonneville for 15 years. They cost a bit more, but they look good and really hold up well.
