Collective Wisdom sought...or just your opinon will do
« on: July 14, 2018, 05:37:59 PM »
I keep going back and forth about selling my 2007 Breva 750 and replacing her with a V7 Milano, Carbon or even the Rough.  But if I keep the Breva which I love, I would like to 'enhance' it a bit.  It is now pretty much stock.  So what I am asking the guys much more knowledgeable about these things than I.....what upgrades, if any would you do to the Breva?  Shocks, if so, what kind, etc.

Thanks in advance...and btw I can't keep the Breva and buy the V7, my wife has laid down the law.  I have a boat, I am also building a boat, 3 road racing bicycles, a mountain bike, etc....and her car has not seen the inside of the garage for 10 years. :thewife:

Much of it is personal.  What are the things you like most about the Breva?
People may be able to comment on how they feel the V7 matches up in those areas.

Garages are for toys.  Cars are just tools.
What do the new bikes do that your's doesn't? Does it matter to you? Those are the kinds of things I'd be asking myself.

The Breva was nice.

The new V7 is all that and much more.

* Bigger fuel tank/greater range
* Single throttle body, nothing to sync
* ABS and TC on models from the last few years
* More power (especially the Hemi head models)
* Different ergos and options to change them

Look there's nothing WRONG with the Breva, but the V7 offers even more.

Get a bigger garage, my wife doesn't care what I have as long as she has a warm parking space in the garage.

Gotta go with Kev on the V7 over a B750 - different animal all together and for my $0.02, clearly an upgrade. Hell, I like my V7 III more than my dearly departed B1100. Don't think you'd be disappointed at any level.

Keep the Breva.

To my taste, my 2007 shiny, all black Breva with its swoopy plastic tank is a better looking bike than the newer iterations.  Yes, the plastic tank can be a bit of PITA regarding running no ethanol gas, but otherwise, what’s not to love? The once a year ritual of checking valve clearances and balancing throttle bodies is a doddle.  I don’t doubt the V7 is a better bike, but are you going to notice or care about a couple of extra horses?  If you really wanted more power, you’d be thinking about another marque altogether.  And, there’s a certain charm in a well kept older bike.

I’d take a bit of the money I’d save on not buying the new bike to tweak the Breva (which I love) and use another fraction of the saved money to take the spouse on a nice cruise.  Pocket the rest.

I'd keep the 750 and farkle it to perfection.

I have to agree with Rhodan, only you know what your Breva may be "lacking".  Looks like you have the luggage sorted, you must have some idea what would improve your ride.  Lots of suspension mods out there if you feel the ride is overly harsh or too soft.  Lots of options for wind management if you don't care for the stock windscreen.  I just purchased a 2004 Breva and only have 600 miles on it so far, so I'm still learning what I might need or want to improve it.  Bang for the buck, I think a centerstand is at the top of my list for improvements.  Already have Mistrals, a louder horn, battery minder and tender,  a touring screen, and Cbow soft bag setup.  Set up your ride to make it enjoyable and don't just 'farkle" to "farkle".

Many of the plastic tanks will swell or deform due to ethanol.  I'd make the switch for that reason alone since the new V7's have metal tanks.  I had a Ducati Multistrada with multiple tanks and a Stelvio with multiple tanks, it's a well known problem.
