All the sights keep crashing, but did get that he received severe head and chest trauma. No details on who was at fault. If he is retired, what is in training for?

Here is an article I found on the Corriere della Sera:

http://www.corriere.it/sport/motomondiale/notizie/superbike-nicky-hayden-travolto-bici-riccione-ricoverato-prognosi-riservata-953e798c-3b07-11e7-935a-b58ef33c02e7.shtml

I've done a quick translation of it. (you can always do a google translate, JIC)

Quote
Major bicycle accident for Nicky Hayden. The US motorcyclist was riding a bicycle in Tavoleto (the provincial town that connects Riccione to Tavoleto, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino), in Misano Adriatico. The 2006 MotoGP World Champion on Tuesday at around 2pm was with a group of cyclists at an intersection with Tavoleto Street when he was hit by a Peugeot moving toward the coast: at the origin of the accident there was a yeld sign that was not observed. (I guess someone was supposed to yeld, it's not clear to me who). The American fractured his  pelvis and suffered skull trauma. He was then ransferred by Helicopter to Cesena. The car's windshield was damaged on the right side .The 35-year-old American, now in the Honda Team in Superbike, ended up against the windshield of the car and then on the asphalt. Stabilized on site, he was then transferred to the Nursing Hospital in Rimini with the highest gravity code. He was later transferred to the trauma center of the Bufalini di Cesena, the center of reference in the Region. The bicycle, completely destroyed, was thrown into a ditch with a violent impact on the right side of the car. The driver, a 30-year-old from Morciano di Romagna (Rn), stopped a few meters after the point of impact.

Having survived a head injury, Nicky's roadracing career is over, if nothing worse.

I just read on Super Bike Planet if there is any good news to this it is that he survived the first 24 hours, which seem to be a benchmark for people with this kind of injuries.

There is now a more complete article at The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/may/18/nicky-hayden-bike-crash-injuries-motogp.

I really, really like Nicky Hayden, maybe most of all among the GP riders.

Apparently he was struck by a car while training. Is currently in intensive care with brain trauma.
I've always liked his positive attitude in interviews. Hope he recovers.

So true.

What a loss.

Some of us here will be in Owensboro this weekend for the mutton run; his loss will sure make his hometown a sadder place.

I was just emailed a news story, don't know the source, that Nicky was looking at his phone or ipod and blew stop sign. Traffic cameras show him blowing the sign.

What a huge loss to the sport! I was pleased to see even a big-time media outfit like CBSNews.com did a story on Nicky...at least he got to the top of his profession in his too-short life...RIP

Changed the title to more accurately reflect what has happened . I've never had many heroes , public figures are often disappointing in real life . Nicky was and will remain a hero to not only me , but many of us , not so much because of his skills as a racer , but because of the way he treated others . He now moves into the pantheon that is populated by people like Mike Hailwood and Joey Dunlop , great racers , but incredible human beings.
RIP Champ
