Helmet brake light
« on: March 28, 2017, 07:05:36 AM »
Wondering if anyone uses, or has ever tried, a helmet mounted brake light. I see several on Amazon and eBay but reviews are mixed. The Griso has one,  rather low brake light and I don't plan to put a trunk or anything else on the bike to mount something up higher.

Also toying with the idea of using the guts to trigger a larger / brighter light I could mount on my backpack.

In a related question, can the Guzzi electrical system handle a Back-off brake modulator?

I'm tempted to pick one of these up when they become available.  So far I have not see one to see the actual size or weight.

I had this on my Triumph, but I've moved it to the 850-T. Here's a video from when it was on the Triumph.

That flashing is nice but only 90 lumin or so.  by my calcs

I just replaced the V50's double tail-brake light and V11 Lemans single tail-brake with:

$ 10 bucks each and 270 lumin each.  Since the V50 uses double that's a 500+ lumin brake light.

That's interesting, but what brand is it and where did you get it?  There are many that look the same, but the quality varies....

Curious if these are legal in all states?

I want one that lights a light bulb over my head like when a cartoon character gets an idea.

In NJ it's OK to have up to 5 flashes but then the brake light must go steady on. I have that on my current brake light.

My objective is to get a second light up high in a driver's line of sight, hence the helmet or backpack mounted light.

Another out-of-the-box thought I had is to get one of those laser "anti-collision" warning lights https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ET07MX4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but instead of having it pointed on the ground (illegal in NJ), pointing it on my back so I light up when I hit the brakes.

EZ-PZ! Just use a black coat hanger to hold a bulb, duct tape it to your helmet and wire to a power source. Won't look like much during the day but will be 'da bomb' at night.

It works on the Norge, but you do need to get the XP if you have LED lights.  It also works with standard bulbs.

I would not attach to the helmet anything that could act as a wedge.

Heres an add-on helmet signal light ....

Multi colored leds covering most of the helmet offers lots of possibilities.

Light emitting boots!
