Hmmmm .... must have some Convert in it ................. automatic transmission!  Think I'd be a bit dubious about this ad.

Approach with extreme caution . The ad makes very little sense , usually a warning .

Good catch, I missed the automatic transmission reference.  There is a phone number, but the ad wording is still suspect, and of course, the price is way too low for nice R 75.

It was more of a rhetorical question, and a PSA.
To some, it may not be quite obvious, and if it keeps someone on this board from losing $ to a scam, I think it's worth posting.

The guy doesn't own or have the bike, but he'll try to sweet-talk you into giving him some money; usually "earnest money" or a "refundable deposit" to hold the bike, or in some check or something which he'll "hold" until you take possession.

In this year of 2017 A.D., I don't see how anyone could fall for that, but many people still do; the Green Mist of Greed and Envy blocks their vision, and all they can see is them in the future telling their buddy who just paid $3500 for the same sort of R75/5 "What, you paid THAT for it?   Wow.   I just got this one for $1753, shame you paid so much for yours, eh?  Heh heh heh  ...."

Just went through this.  Saw a ridiculous price on a beautiful bike in 2 ads.  Contacted the seller for the heck of it.  I messed with him for about a week until I got tired of it.  Here are the ads and one of the emails from him.  Have a laugh.

I'm in New Jersey due to my work (i'm an Air Force MSgt.) and i have the bike here with me. I can deliver it to your shipping address ,i will pay for the shipping and insurance fees.

The total price is $2350 ( no extra fees for you, shipping is free )...The payment will be made only after you'll receive, test and inspect the bike .

The deal will go through eBay Motors. In this way both of us will have the required assurance that the deal will take place well. A refund policy will be included.
You will have 5 day return policy and 5 days for inspection before payment. If something won't be like you expected to be you can return the bike without any expense .

If you agree with these terms please reply me with your full name, shipping address and phone# so that i can forward them to eBay. They will send you a complete list with instructions.

I`m waiting for your reply as soon as possible.

Thank you!

On the other hand, occasionally there are "steals" to be had.  I had to pass on a guy who was practically giving away a 78 R100RS that I saw on the local CL.  He wanted REALLY badly to sell it within a week to help out his parents with a medical emergency. I know, I know, there's a sob story behind almost every supposedly super good deal, but I tended to believe him because I came to his house to see it & a fairly long test ride revealed no handling quirks or funny noises in the motor or transmission.  The bike had a major scratch on the top of the tank but was otherwise pristine cosmetically - but the scratch & the non-stock color (for a 1978 model) made it a bit less desirable for the potential market he had to deal with.  Unfortunately, at the time I just couldn't come up with even the pittance he was asking for.  Lucky for me, though, because 6 months later I stumbled across my 90 Mille GT (also on CL & fairly local) & by that time I'd accumulated enough money to buy it, after some bargaining, for a reasonably good price.  I'm happier riding the Mille, but a $1,000 repair of the BMW tank would have yielded a bike resalable for at least $3,000 more than I would have paid for it (i.e. $2K profit).
