Yes, I stay in a hotel near the facility 4 nights per week, Mon. thru Thurs., (company paid), and drive home Fri. @ 12 noon, so technically, only 2 times per week, but it is 2 hours / 122 miles each way!!  4 nights in Chandler, 3 nights in Vortex-Land, then the cycle repeats!

At least you're getting some mileage for your two hour commute.  San Fernando Valley to LAX in peak traffic hours, and in a car, can take that long, or damn near it and that commute is under 30 miles.  Sure glad I don't have to do that any longer.

I flew into Oakland International last week just for the day on business, and forgot how bad traffic was...even between 9am-2:30pm....forget about "Rush Hour!!"

Give Nor-Cal some loves for me!

At least Oakland I is an easy airport to get in/out of.  Phoenix natives have no idea about how bad traffic is elsewhere.  IMHO Maricopa County has done a decent job of anticipating and preventing most of the traffic issues that plague other metropolitan areas.

Oakland International is much easier to fly into then SFO and certainly LAX...no question!!

I think it was United who provided a cockpit comm channel on the headphones...SFO traffic was an amazing mix of inbound overseas flights where the International Radio Operators Phonetic Alphabet is the most English some pilots speak and the 'Chuck Yeager'-style West Virginia drawl "We got ourselves a little problem, folks..." of English-speaking pilots challenged AT Control operations...hats off to those folks who always seem to manage a "Have a good flight, sir/madam..." despite conditions.... :thumb:

Well...since I have a touch of "OCD"...I would personally be running around and be picking up the napkins on the ground!!!

Seriously though, we cleaned up quite well for both days...and gave extra food, (Pizza from Fri. night and BBQ from Sat. night), that was left-over to the hotel staff...and they were very grateful and happy!

OCD?  I've got CDO!  It's a lot like OCD, but in alphabetical order. Like it should be.

I booked a room today.  So put me down for pizza and BBQ!  The room was $98 a night, they said that's the rate cause it's "Fair Weekend".  So big goings-on in Cottonwood?

This is what they are referring to...."The annual Verde Valley Fair"

I am really hoping to make it down there this year, but am not in a position to commit.  I have a question for the Arizona knowledgeable.  How hard would it be to find a "last minute", say within a week of the event, room in the area?  It is sort of a popular area and good season to be there, so I am concerned that winging it will work.  Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

You should be fine...there is a Super 8, Best Western, and several other hotels / motels in and around the Cottonwood area and all within 5-15 minutes from "The View" we we are staying.  However, need to CALL and CHECK first.  Also, there is the Rio Verde campground 5 minutes away as well. :thumb:

Well, I made a reservation, so you can tentatively plan on another mouth at dinner Friday and Saturday (and being used extensively for drinking and gabbing otherwise). I still am not sure enough to say I will be there, but if there's another event in the area I figured I'd better reserve in case.

Now, which bike to ride? The Norge? No, it'll likely be in for service. The Stelvio? Maybe - but I might want to use it for New Mexico late on. The Griso? Sounds like just the right distance, and the right kind of bike for the roads in the area! Decisions, decisions....

You can cancel with only 24 hours notice, so that's good.  Not sold out yet?  I think they are getting  close.  The Norge will be my weapon of choice, 1500 miles each way.

If you show up on ANY motorcycle, Guzzi or whatever, that's all that really matters!  :thumb:

In downtown Cottonwood, on Main Street, there are also two motels - The Tavern Hotel (behind the Tavern Grill) and the The Iron Horse, and more.  Check those out as well...maybe 15 minutes away.  See below

The Pines Motel and Super 8 and Best Western are all walking distance to the View Motel! :thumb:

Historic downtown Cottonwood is the NEW happening place in the Verde Valley, with restaurants, shops, wineries and more!

Go swimming!?!   Unless the pool is heated, we low desert dwellers won't dip a toe without the temps being 100 or better for at least a week!  When we visit California my children "swim" in the hot tub as the pool, even heated, turns them blue.
