I have a friend who has a Cali 1400 in need of a rear tire change soon. I have a Max Jax lift with the Motorcycle adapter.

However - we don't know how the 'balance' points will work out on this lift accessory.

Hoping someone has tried the Max Jax lift?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers -

If you find yourself asking "What the hell is a Max Jax Motorcycle adapter" there is a video showing it in use....

In my opinion you won't be able to balance the bike without addition support, the back of the bike will tip down as soon as wheels will leave the ground. I use Big Blue motorcycle lift (http://bigbluemotorcyclelift.com/product/harley-lift-eazyrizer-big-blue/) and in order to lift my Audace I use couple J claps to ensure bike is secure,

Thanks! Any photos of how you secured the front end? We have heard about the machine being rear-heavy

I don't think the Cal 1400 are rear-heavy, the way the frame run under the bike leave you with no option but placing the lift arm further to the front (that is if you want to place the bike on the frame pipes) and this will cause the rear of bike to have tendency to drop. I will try to document the procedure tomorrow and will post some pictures.

As promised I will try to explain/show the way the Big Blue works with my Audace :)

The area where lift arms can be placed are quite limited and is located almost under the engine so balancing the bike is almost imposible:

In addition, the side stand mounting to the frame creates another obstacle:

Once the lift arms are properly set under the bike and bike is lifted up just enough so the front wheel is not touching the ground I place J hook bolts and tight the nuts. J bolts are placed around the frame pipes and screw to the lift arm, one which is closer to front wheel:

This is left side:

Right side:

Now bike is ready to be lifted up:

It takes me aprox. 10 - 15 minutes to get bike up. My Audace spends all winter sitting on the lift, it is very solid lift.

I hope you find this helpful,

As the friend in question, I thank you for that detailed description. May need to chop up some tubing and fab up some similar brackets. How beefy are those J-bolts? 3/8"?

I've often solved this problem with a block and tackle or ratchet webbing, hoisting the bike from the rafters.  Here's the suspended T when I was cleaning out the mud after the flood. What a godawful mess.

Yes, they are 3/8" J-bolts. Please have a look at the image below, there are couple 1" - 1 1/2"  long pipes welded on each side of the bike which somehow can be use to counter weight the bike once in the air. Please don't ask me how, just thought I point this to you and they may serve purpose.
