I saw the same article and wondered about the intellectual property rights and trademarking of the name. "Stelvio" may be just a placeholder for Alfa Romeo. And, given their spotty track record on actually bringing new products to market, it may be years before it becomes an issue.

Can you copyright a place name? Cars always use them: Daytona, Monte Carlo, Torino (ha!), Milan, Le Mans, Bel Air, Montego. There was an Alfa Romeo Montecarlo, and of course both a Dodge and Ferrari Daytona.

I await the Fiat Newark.

Not to forget the Triumph and Ford Thunderbirds. I did read that Ford obtained permission from Triumph to use the name. But who knows?

it would be nice if Alfa were to make a new Duetto or GTV before anyone that had ever even seen one dies of old age.

Oh man I didn't read the OP closely the first time. I didn't realize until I saw an ad this morning that they'd named a car "Stelvio" also.

Not miles away from a Mazda CX-5, it'd be cool if Mazda put a modern rotary in there, just because they can.
