Nick Adams' 2016 riding year video
« on: December 09, 2016, 07:58:17 AM »
It doesn't seem as though I'll be doing much riding in the rest of December,   so here is my annual year end summary.

In total - about 15,000 miles, spread across 4 bikes (although most on the 1972 Guzzi Eldorado). I hope you enjoy it.

Have a great Christmas and ride safely in 2017.

Nick

Glad YOU'RE riding on those patches of snow and wet-spot-on-the-road-is-it-ice days.

I can just watch and don't have to do it, white knuckles and all ....

Thanks!!

I enjoyed the video, thank you very much. I hope you will manage to squeeze couple more rides before Xmas so we all can enjoy more videos and/or pictures :gotpics:

BTW, on Nov 4th I ordered 3 of your books from Amazon (paperback) and the delivery is estimated for Dec 14th. According to tracking info it's been in Burlington since Nov 22nd. I hoped to enjoy good read on my flight to Tampa next week but now have to find substitute.

Merry Xmas Nick!

I mostly "listen" to Nick's travelogues , great music , even better commentary with that British accent and understated manner . What is it about a Brit accent that gives commentary more gravitas ?

Janusz...sorry about that. Amazon are usually quick. They must have been out of stock because of the astounding pre-Christmas sales    I hope you enjoy them when they arrive.

Dusty et al.  I had originally included part of 'Calendar Girl' by Neil Sedaka as part of the soundtrack but the copyright police made it unavailable in the EU.

Thanks for posting. Your '72 looks like a keeper.  Is the 750S in the dog house after the spring loaded side stand incident?

Not at all Steph.  It's only happened to me twice, and both times it was my own stupid fault.  I was out riding it again later the same month - although my leg was still a bit touchy.

My `81 CX100 came with that spring loaded sidestand too.   It can be altered with about a 1.5" piece of metal between the mount and the spring.

Nick, could you tell us about your camera and camera mounting options? Did I see a chest strap in one of those videos?  Suction cups?

Which video editing software do you use?

Thanks,
Steve.

Hi Steve,
For this one I only had a single gopro on a chest harness. Usually I use two with various mounts spread around the bike (crash bars, suction mount on panniers etc.).

I've just started using Corel Videostudio x9. But they are all basically the same and demand a bit of learning.

I didn't take enough varied video footage this year spending more time with stills, but I'm getting a third camera for Christmas so I'll be able to inflict more variety on you in the new year.

Very enjoyable.

I watch lots of riding videos now that my season is ended.
It is the audio quality that keeps the streaming on or prompting me to turn to the next video.
How do you keep the wind noise out of the microphone?

Yukonica:
Wind noise is a constant issue, often made worse by pops and clicks from the camera moving in the housing or from the mount itself, especially on rough roads.  It never seems to be an issue when using the chest mount, but you may notice that the audio is missing from some of the video footage when I'm doing the voice-over. This is because it was so awful, I eliminated it.

Or......it may be that the Nuovo Falcone is so slow that it barely ruffles the wind.

Fotoguzzi:
I haven't played around with GoPro Studio enough to really have a handle on its capabilities, but if doesn't seem to offer much in the way of effects and transitions other than fade-in, fade-out.

Great video Nick.  I found your YT channel long before buying my Norge or joining the forums.  I grew up in rural Northern Iowa riding dirt bikes and ATVs all through the winter mud, ice, snow.  I'm thoroughly inspired by your Eldorado dirt/snow road riding ways.  My next bike will be a "Dirty Eldo" with knobbies thanks to you.  Fantastic!

Cheers :)

Some of it is still a bit shaky. Recording at 60fps helps then there's enough meat for a software stabilization filter to have an effect. Most video editing software has a filter that will help.  But...some of my footage is so shaky and so wind noisy that I just use the best bits. If 5% of the stuff I record is any good I'm doing well.  And much of it ends up being boring anyway.
