Good point. I have to leave it until I regain my composure. I'm about to commit motorcide
My 1200 Sport would do that every once in a great while, usually when it did happen it would be at a hotel hundreds of miles from home. I installed a fuse and starter switch under the seat between the battery and starter solenoid. Turn on ignition switch, if no start, hit the switch under the seat and the motor would crank and fire up. And I also had the startus interuptus installed.
Mine is extremely sensitive to the terminals not being shiny clean. .Even after a 500 mile day, it might not start the next day if there is smegma on the terminals.
I think you guys are onto something. The ground post above the starter has that threaded aluminum hex post. I've never liked it and the aluminum threads bother me. I'm going to make something up with a stainless thread, threaded standoff, and nice washers that will give me a good contact.
And the award goes to....drum roll.....Flower King!Yup- you nailed it buddy. I never liked that #@%&%! aluminum hex post. When I went to remove the plastic cover, I noticed that the fastener for the upper mount (going into the same hex post!) had fallen out. Hmmmm- vibration.I didn't like the aluminum threads and you sure know you can't torque it tight. I decided to replace it with stainless and forgo fastening the upper plastic mount. I used nice generous washers and a lock washer- a smidge of blue locktite- and Bob's your uncle. Based on our shared experience- I would say that rerouting grounds or replacing the fastener should be a mandatory fix right along with the startus interuptus. Glad as hell I found this out in my driveway instead of on the road!!THANK YOU ALL, you crusty, opinionated so and so's.
