I remember seeing the bike at Velocity Motors back in the day. Didn't get the bike but did end up with a t-shirt. Beautiful machine and surprisingly low no-reserve opening bid.

The styling and color does make it look a bit like a Buell, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Assuming it's a real seller and a real bike, does the "Ghezzi and Brian" provenance make it worth $16,000 from either a collector's or rider's standpoint?

I wouldn't have said so, but I don't know about these particular ones ....

Doesn't look to be particularly well kept, IMO. Oil stains on the muffler, fluffy black engine paint, etc.

The seller appears to be Eric Engler, owner of (now closed) Velocity Motorcycles in Richmond.

There was a Furia just like this one at the Guzzi factory event in (I believe) 2002.  In that pre-Piaggio post-Wittner period Aprilia/Guzzi was collaborating with G&B on several bikes, including the MGS-01 that appeared not long after.  I didn't know that at the time so I remember being surprised to see a bike from an apparent competitor at the Guzzi factory on display.  Later on my local dealer had a couple of them.  It's interesting but not as valuable to me as the seller apparently thinks it will be to the market.   The Paioli forks also used by Bimota are not very good, the gearbox is not as good as the V11 Sport of the same era, and the double gas cap thing would drive me crazy - although it's good that the real tank is aluminum (not plastic). A minor point is that the poor quality 2002 era engine paint will eventually have to be dealt with.

This thing sure looks ridden hard and put away wet. What's up with the double gas caps ?!?!?!?!

I'd rather have a nice V11 sport.

What appears to be the gas tank is a cover, and what appears to be a gas cap is just a removable section of the cover that allows access to a real gas cap underneath.  The real gas tank is a welded sheet aluminum fabrication underneath.  The design could have been excuted a lot better, more like late 70s Guzzi for example, with a hinged locking cover over with a non locking cap.

I remember my local dealer expressing the same reaction to me re comparison with the V11 Sport.

I've seen a few G-Bs in soCal @ Guzzi rallies, but not exactly like this 1.  Always liked the muffler under the frame out of the way. Now this setup is more common on other brands like Kawasaki.

I don't rate this very high on my  desirability scale, despite the rarity. The best test is: would I give up the Daytona for the Furia? Don't think so.

That is nice, but like a lot of them they appear to have a high seat and I don't like been perched on a bike

I still think Magni blows them away with his creations, although some might prefer the more modern style of the G&B bikes

Engine paint is original 2002, as seen on all Guzzis that year. "Recall Wrinkle Black"

This is one of those deals where you realize that "rare" doesn't necessarily mean "valuable."  When's the last time you saw a '61 Impala bubbletop driving down the road?  10 years?  More?  Doesn't mean the car is worth boatloads of money.

Depends on what kind of boat you're sailing.

A '61 Impala Sport Coupe, straight but needing complete restoration, will set you back $15 - $20K.

A nice restored one will be north of $50K.   I don't know what you consider "real money" but for a car that sold for about $2100 new when I were a nipper, that seems pretty good ... !

How about a '49 "bathtub" Packard 4 door?  With rusty floors?  Not to be confused with an all original '37 Packard business coupe, which is sitting in my garage and which I will never ever sell.

I haven't seen or ridden in one since last October  A friend decided he wanted one and has restored it at considerable expense, with lots of hands on work.  His is actually a '50.  He also has a Maserati Formula One car among other neat stuff, so his tastes are not confined to oddball US classics.

Won't see many more of them for sale either, I expect.

This one didn't even get one bid at the $8000 start bid, much less the $16000 buy it now.

Better bury it in the sand for 1000 years and try again ....

From the same era, I have always admired the 1949 Mercury, and the hot-rodders LOVE to lower and customize these.  Even the stock version is cool! :1:  :thumb:
