Fork Gaiters for EV/Jackal etc...
« on: January 18, 2018, 06:41:47 PM »

A couple of years ago I replaced the fork seals on the 2001 V 11 Jackal and found, quite by accident, a really nice fitting set of fork gaiters and installed them.

The '04 EV Touring is due for seals and I would like to find another set however, I have no part number or fitment information for them.  As I recall these were from a Triumph, new and I cut aout an inch off the very bottom of the gaiter to make a perfect fit on the fork, nested great onto the dust seal.

Any of you folks have a reliable line on a set that will fit this front fork..?

Thanks much,
Rob

I used the Triumph gaiters too and did not trim any off. I loosened up the clamp on the fender between the forks and worked the gaiter down a bit.

I got these. They were a little tight but streched out ok. I put a small hole at the back bottom of the gaiter to let it breathe.

I used Triumph gaiters without cutting them.  I've cut gaiters in the past and they've split.  They're a tight fit, which I don't mind.  I boiled mine and lubed the fork tubes and slider ends for a snug install that was self-clamping (nobody likes it when their gaiter rides up).  The ones I got were not fond of brake fluid.

Some gaiters have a vent hole and some do not.  I prefer mine with one.  My reasoning is that without a vent any moisture that collects in the bellows will get forced past the fork seals via the bellows pumping action.  So if mine don't come with one I make one at the bottom rear with a fine soldering tip.  A hot nail will burn a clean hole, too.

Another vendor.

https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Motorcycle-Fork-Boot-Set/dp/B00TQBL52G/ref=pd_ybh_a_113?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3XR3HVJPGDJXTGJB6YCZ

Those may be a bit small.

The Triumph ones I linked are 40mm upper ID, 60mm lower ID, 75mm compressed height, 200 max height, 150mm static height.

Our forks are 45mm and the the fork sliders are about 63mm I think.

The ones I had came from an outfit in Canada called Pyramid.  They were for 44mm tubes and fit the slider well.

Take a look at these shock boots:

https://www.oreillyauto.com/search/2005/buick/lesabre?q=rancho+RS1952

They're perfect on our Sportster, and you can check out the Amazon reviews from folks who've used them on other bikes.  Just trim the bottom to the length you need, and use a hot nail to punch a clean vent.

The post was for the vendor.  They have a number of sizes.  Check "yours" and appropriately.  Did you look below the listing for the other sizes???

Thanks, I'll take some measurements and check these out.  The ones I had previously were a tad longer than I needed and the bottom opening was too tight, that is why I cut them.  They also had a breathing hole already.

Thanks,
Rob
