MGX 21, really pretty cool!
« on: June 19, 2018, 04:50:51 PM »
I know a few of you old tarts are gonna have a problem with this, so what?

I have seen several MGX, have not ridden one, but have ridden a couple Cal 1400, and if you haven't, then shut up, you have nothing worth offering.  I think it looks pretty cool, yea, I get the 21" wheel is all about style, but so is a lot of motorcycling.   Baggers, are Baggers, Duh!   Maybe you don't like/get Baggers, that's ok, I don't get a lot of stuff.  But the MGX 21 is a cool bagger, anyway you cut it.

I found the 1400s I rode to be lots of fun, that's it, all I have to say.

I'm not into baggers, but an MGX drove by me the other day on Ventura Boulevard, it sounded pretty sweet, and looks really cool, the first time I've seen one in person. I am reassessing my opinion of baggers. I like the MGX and would totally ride one.

Love the look but dont like matt/carbon finishes. If they did a gloss black and chrome like the Custom I would be onto one.

I can say with complete honesty that the MGX is my all time favorite motorcycle.  I've had 10 Guzzis, a Harley, a few Hondawazukis and even a lemon Triumph in the mix.  This one is my favorite. I hope it's as reliable as the 98 EV I put almost 89K miles on. I'm sitting over 10K on this one, all trouble free so far.

If it had a frame mounted fairing I would be interested, but you can't beat the Harley Road Glide for touring bagger.

Getting the MGX off the side stand is a challenge for some, but turn the handlebar full right and she lifts upright fairly easy.

I just can't do fork mounted fairings.

That's an interesting excuse.  The best fairing I ever had by far, was the fork mounted Pacifico/Swanee knock off, sold by Harpers.  It created an air pocket you could eat lunch in at 80 mph!

Not an excuse.  Always preferred frame mounted fairings.  Vetter knew what he was doing.

Yes, it's an excuse.  I knew that would get you, would have got me too.  An excuse, is simply a reason, some excuses are bogus, others are perfectly reasonable, I leave it to you to conclude where yours belongs!

I love the look of the bike, the "bad black"  darth vader finish not so much. I like shiny! I would love that bike in a candy red, with the carbon fiber accents,  think it would look totally badass, but in a different way.
Even though the fairing is not frame mounted, its compact enough that I bet it doesnt affect the handling negatively too bad.  It really is a Lovely bike all around!

I don't believe I ever offered a reason other than preference.

You did.  You said since it doesn't have a frame mounted fairing, your not interested.
Your preference is the thought behind your excuse, you need to stop thinking of an excuse as an automatic negative.

Okay.  I don't think you understand what it is I'm trying to say about how a preference comes to be.

I'm in the camp of 'cool bike but awful color' too. Just didn't go for the matte black at all, it's too overdone in motorcycling in general. For a bike like this black ruins the curves and highlights, making it just a boring silhouette of a bike instead. Missed opportunity too, had they themed it in the colors of its namesake, as a 'flying fortress' I think it would do much better.

They're not the only ones making this mistake though, the Honda NM4 made the same mistake in the US market. It sells much better overseas in actual colors.

That and not offering an actual Manual version :P...or even revived as DCT would fair better here in US.

The first time I saw MGX 21 show bike was also the first time I was interested in a MG.  I read everything that came out about it, watched the introduction video and ride tests at Sturgis, etc.  All of this exposed me to MG in general, and so I discovered the Cali 14, fell in love with it and bought one.  In other words, the MGX 21 is a halo vehicle that did it's job, at least with me.

I would loved to have had a silver carbon fiber option. That coupled with the matte black would look bada$$ in my opinion.

Had a Vetter Windjammer IV on my KZ1000ST.  Probably the most comfortable set up I've ever had.  Good coverage, lots of storage and stable.  I remember eating a bag of popcorn at 70mph crossing the Canadian prairies.  Wish they still made them!!!

Personally I don't care what the fairing is mounted to as long as it does the job of keeping the wind blast off the ridder. Does the fairing on this beautiful bike do that?
