I'm hoping  Lindsey Vonn can score a gold!  is she there?
....

Well, looks like that ain't happenin' ... I suppose it's easy for top-level competitors to lose their concentration and edge ....

Lizzie Yarnold winning back to back Golds in the Skeleton is a bit of a highlight so far. With a chest infection. Teamate Deas got Bronze.

GB curlers need to up their game a bit.

Loved the snowboard X  - that's a sport made for TV.

I mentioned that the Can-AM women's hockey rematch would be a goody.

My wife and I have been pretty much glued to PyeongChang Olympics. Even the figure skating. They are impressive athletes, all. And the U.S. women's hockey team? "Unrelenting" a one word description from my wife.

I've done some pretty crazy stuff in my early years, but skiing down a hill backwards into a jump? Beyond my jaw-dropping-imagination.

We definitely prefer these kinds of athletic events over a football game any day of the week. Too bad it only happens on four year cycles. (Well, the Summer Olympics alternate in between, so we get 'em every two years.)

These young people don't get paid. They do get hurt. One female figure skater had broken her back three times! And Lindsay Vonn has so many scars she looks like she's been through Thunder Dome. And yet they get back up and try again.

Really brings tears to my eyes to witness such determination and skill. All power to 'em :thumb:

Two kiwi kids, both 16 years old won bronze medals - first medals for NZ in 26 years. Both qualify for junior passes on the slopes and are back to school when they get back home.

Awesome :-)

One third of all American medal winners are of Asian heritage.  That says something about their determination

I have a female relative that is a coach on K-State's womens' rowing team. Saw her at a funeral on a blustery and snowy day. I asked her what they do on days like this at practice and she said "They were on the river this morning, they are pretty tough." I'll say. Makes me shiver just thinking about it.

    The State wrestling championships just ended.  One of the girls from Kealakehe HS won the 184 lb state championship.  Roxie dropped a weight class from 225 lb.    Big Samoan girl and not fat.  She could definitely beat up anyone on the forum.  She's crying 'cuz she won and her opponent is crying because she lost.

Chloe Kim.  Adorable!  Lord, she was amazing in the snowboard half pipe competition.  At 17 years old, I didn't want to give a speech in front of my Language Arts class.  Here she is, performing in front of the world, and doing an amazing job of it.

Tom is not joking. A large Samoan girl not fat is awesome in her physical prowess.  With training, even more so.
Kamehameha was himself of Samoan blood.  He was somewhere from 6'8" to 6" 10" tall and when young about 350 pounds of non fat.  He was the smallest of 5 brothers.  But he was the toughest and smartest too. He gained his royalty the old fashioned way.  He beat the crap out of all rivals.

It's amazing that Norway a country of 5.3 million is leading the medal count! A lot of very talented athletes in many different sports.

Yes.  I've noticed that large Samoan women dominate the NFL, MLB, the MMA, heavyweight boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, "Strongest Man" competitions, and every other kind of head-to-head contest of physical strength that I've ever seen, beating men everywhere.  How silly of me!

But I was just making sure ..... don't mind me.

Historical anthropologists are divided on which was the very first thing that ancient humans wagered on:

1) My horse can run faster than your horse.
2) My guy can whup your guy.

Without a track or ring to determine the outcome, however, we will be forever in the dark as to whether (for example) Kev m with his martial arts background, or lissome, muscular young Laei of the Islands would win a best two falls out of three, catch as can competition ....

In real life, yes.

But Thompson's name ain't Duke.  And Duke and his Samoan Lawyer, Dr Gonzo, were in "Las Vegas".

Totally aware of your skepticism.  The young women that are involved in hs wrestling and judo in Hawaii are not obese or fat.  They're large in stature and as athletes can compete against young men in the same age group and same weight class.

The reason the Hawaii state athletic association separated the sexes for both sports is because the males were losing to
the females.  The rules changed.
