Since the thread the other day, E Tremble and I have been talking about doing a European bike get together in Raleigh NC in March or April.  Right now I figure we can get 20 bikes just from friends and acquaintances.  Promoting it would bring out more.

Anyone here interested in a meet downtown, show off our bikes, have lunch, and go out for a ride?

I've got friends and relatives in Raliegh and am overdue for a visit.  Let me know what weekend and I'll see if I can make it up there.

The "Ton Up Boys" do a "Mods and Rockers" thing over Labor Day weekend.   Early spring would be a good time for a Euro meet.  I'll put it on my calendar if it jells.

Any preferences as to when?  Originally we thought early March, but then I got to thinking the weather's usually still thinking about Spring then and April might be better.  I ought to go through the local events calendars and see what's happening.

I already know March 13th was The Run to the Oaks 5K and the St Patty's day parade in Moore square.  It would be nice to have an alternative event happening.  Maybe food vendors and we would provide something else for their audience to view.  Just a thought.

Mark,

I would ride over from Greensboro.  BTW, are there still gatherings on Sunday morning off of exit 164 in Hillsborough?

Do they still have the Euro bike thing at Michael's on one of the Sundays each month?

If I have the Eldo back together I'd be up for April. There are three other Guzzi owners in our little town of 800 that might be able to make it too. Keep us posted please.

Thanks,

I didn't know if Michaels was still open.  Too far from Wake Forest for anything other than an entire Sunday ride.

But what E Tremble and I want to do is get a start on some sort of a group of people that ride European bikes.  BMWs, Triumphs, Ducatis, Laverdas, Bimotas (there is a Bimota dealer hidden in Raleigh!) and of course Guzzis.

The trick will be deciding on a date, then contacting the specific forums and groups for people to join, then finding the internet recluses and getting them to drag their stuff out.

Picking a date is critical to me, as I'll have to travel and need some lead time to leave a couple days open and make lodging arrangements...

Those that know N. Carolina weather, what would be the preference?  Late March we have the Lamb or Lion weather conundrum and then April, showers for those May flowers.

Waddya think?  Late March and take our chances with the next weekend as a weather alternate?

I also voted for the 10th, better chance of good weather the farther into Spring we go.

I've got some good Airhead-riding friends that work for Capital BMW in Raleigh, I'll be sure to tell them too.
They might even ride their his 'n' hers Laverdas over.
We could spread the word at Carolina BMW in Greensboro too, unless it seems like it might be getting too big.

Euro bike at Michels turned into a sea of Hardlys.  Michaels closed but hardleys where still gathering over there. don't know if they still do. it was brand new chrome fest.

SO. this in Rahl will be fun. I say, BRING IT!

my crew from CH is very easy as far as a date so let's just pick one that works for the majority, and then we'll pick the location in Raleigh, the time, get the Hooter girls ,fireworks, beer bongs, water balloons, sling shots, etc etc,

well, the masses have spoken and their voice heard. April 10th it is. Seagondollar will post the details soon. as for now mark your calendars and delegate all chores you had penciled on April 10th, things such as going to Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Goods, knitting classes etc. to some other date. We deem April 10th Euro Motorcycle day in Raleigh NC. so let it be written, so let it be done.

You might consider taking 64 from Lexington.  Watch for the LEOs past Pittsboro.  Radar almost guaranteed.

Now maybe it's because I have to ride those boring Interstates north of Charlotte too often in my work, but if I were on a bike on a pleasure trip (and I did this last time I came through), once I was in Charlotte I wouldn't take I85 and I40 to Raleigh unless I was just trying to "make time".   I'd take NC 49 to Asheboro and US64 over to Raleigh.   Lots more to see, not as fast of course but many fewer miles ....

I'm in.  Sounds like fun.  Many years ago (late 80's) there used to be a ride-in to a house in chapel hill, off S. Columbia St.  Lotsa cool Euro stuff.  Maybe this will be similar.  Thanks for setting it up!

BTW for those of you riding from a ways in from the west, PM me and I will give you my phone number, in case you need any help along the way (I am in Chapel Hill and have tools and a trailer, not that you would need them)

That's part of what we were hoping to re-create.  I remember in the last years of that get-together there would be bikes parked for 3 blocks around the guy's house.

Did you tell the guy before you organized the ride?   Shocked  Or was it sort of a "surprise"?

That'd be a good one to play on someone ... someone who had a nice garagemahal for example .... shhh mums the word ...

No, it's Saturday.

And the bus station (not Greyhound, but local transit) is there so the Irish don't have to drive themselves home.

Got is Saturday.  Marked it on the calendar.

Luna's on the corner has some great Italian food too (IMO).
Then there's City Market right next door.  VICS has some HUGE food portions.
ED's has good greasy food and Woody's has good burgers.....

I'm hungry if you all can't tell and I work downtown so I've eaten basically everywhere they have around here.
I've yet to find a good breakfast place though.
