I haven't seen snow like this since I was a kid living here in Virginia. Sure hope it clears up before the 15th, that's the day we move. Cindy and I have been going up to Hot Springs during the week and painting and coming back to Roanoke on the weekends. Left yesterday because of the expected storm. They ain't playing no golf up there at the Homestead I can tell you that.

Yeah, up here in northern Wisconsin we've got almost 2 inches since the first of the month.  I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!

Look at the bright side.  You'll be mowing lawn and weeding gardens in a month.  We'll just be going into our biggest snow months.   Angry

This is a real heavy wet snow, dragging down tree limbs and power lines.   I don't expect the power to stay on much longer.

Back a few years ago, there was a neighbor lady here who was 101 years old, born in 1890.   I asked her one time, what was the biggest change she'd seen in her long life, or the thing that made the biggest change in how people lived?  Airplanes?  Cars?  Telephones?

Electricity.  Back before electricity (which didn't get to my home place till 1948 via the Rural Electrification Administration), a woman would literally work herself to death just on household chores - toting and heating water, firing stoves and fireplaces for cooking, making candles, rubbing clothes over a washboard, etc.   With electricity, all that changed.

Now, when it goes out (sometimes for a week) we get just a tiny flavor of how it was back then.  Hauling water, heating it on a stove, cooking food on a wood-fired stove, lighting with kerosene and candles - it takes all your time just to try to stay warm and fed.

Hot running water and penicillin - they could freeze technology there and I'd be happy.  I'd be writing this in a Letter to the Editor at MGNOC .... !

Here in extreme southwest Virginia we are getting nothing but rain this time but lots of it. Now they are giving flash floods but at least its a change from all the snow so far this year.

Our average rainfall is 10" a year.  In the last two weeks we've had 28" of snow and 3" of rain on top of that which washed most of the snow into the river.  Bridges are washed out all over.  I just got paged by a friend of mine who lives along the Gila River surrounded by Wilderness.  She needs a new road blasted out of a cliff side, the old road has disappeared.  The snowpack in the nearby mountains is 380% of normal and another storm coming on Tuesday.  On the bright side the sun came out today and the mud in the driveway dryed up enough I got out to ride for a few hours.  Thought I better get it in before the snow came again.  Here's what the road looked like.  That is a paved road somewhere underneath.

We've accumulated about 6 inches of snow overnight. Maggie and I'll probably be the only ones at the Guzzi breakfast this morning. With only 6.1 miles to the place and a 4wd I have no excuse.

Current just came back on, but sort of flickering and tentative.   8" of wet snow topped with a bunch of freezing rain, trees are down everywhere, but all hail the gallant linemen of Southside Electric Coop who worked in this slop last night ...

We've agreed in our neighborhood that we can't pick on the Yankee's (transplants, not the baseball team).  Two of them pulled out their snowblowers and cleaned most of the driveways on our street.

Over 2 feet so far here in mushroomland PA...

the community snow removal crew has been working all night, so my driveway and walkway is clear

Gonna fire up the Scoobie-Truck and head out to the local park to take my little gal sledding soon!

It's only a mile or two so if we get stuck in the parking lot we'll just hoof it home, but I don't think 2 feet will stop the Scoobie-Doo.
