Total in Mushroomland is officially something like 25-26 inches.

Road crews totally rocked it - we had no prolblems getting to the local park to go sledding, but we had to trudge through a couple of soccer fields worth of 2+ foot of snow to get to the hill...

Hard to imagine that there was no snow here yesterday morning

Man, that makes hurricanes look like a walk in the park.
7 days notice, and nothing to shovel.
No power and a freeze is a bad combo.
Do they get a spike in generator sales after storms like this?
I know a lot of people who bought expensive home-sized generators after Hurr. Ike.
And all we did was sweat, and watch the meat in the freezer rot.
At least you guys could drag the steaks outside.
Be a bitch working the grill, though.

A couple of places I went on Wednesday were sold out of generators ahead of the storm. Even "Big Lots" was having a run on the Chinese-made 1500w units they had in stock.

The local Yamaha/Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/Polaris dealer was sold out of push blades for ATVs and was trying to get more. Every ATV/UTV they had that was equipped with a blade was already sold. I think they were actually happy that Snowmageddon was upon us, something actually going out the door for once.

Baltimore just doesn't know what to do with this much snow... My street won't be plowed till tomorrow the earliest, maybe not till Monday

We got about 20 inches here. Attached is a link to a video of my Cub Cadet blowing my driveway open:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euhrhZjXWrY
It's equipped with a 45 inch 2 stage blower & a steel cab. I installed a camp heater in the cab to keep it comfy.

After about 9 hours shoveling my driveway, I'm still not quite to the street.  Probably a couple more hours on Sunday before I can go to the grocery store.  Too tired to get pictures, may snap a couple in the morning.  The snow was a couple inches above my knee, so about 26-28" at my house.

Things I've learned so far:

WD40 makes a pretty good anti-stick agent for a snow shovel.

The propellant in WD40 doesn't work very well after it's spent the night in a 25 degree garage. (bring the can in the house to let it warm up a bit.)

If your boots leak a little bit so both pairs of your socks get wet, after about 3 hours you can't feel your toes.  But by then it's about time for lunch.

One pair of dry socks inside plastic shopping bags, with another pair of socks over the bags in leaky boots will keep your feet warm for nearly 5 hours.  A half hour after that, you can't feel your toes again.

There is not enough ibuprofen to keep everything I have from hurting after shoveling snow for 9 hours.

Now I'm too tired to list any more things.

Oh, and

There were very few power outages here in PA.

We didn't lose power at all, but if we had between the township pressurized water supply, fire place and the gas stove for cooking it wouldn't be much of a big deal (at least for a couple of days).

No shoveling here - community takes care of it - right up to the door. About 8 spanish speaking gentleman had cleared my driveway and walkway yesterday morning around 6 am - then again last night around 10...

About 28 in here in No. VA.  Spent all day shoveling yesterday but I can't go anywhere.  I just have to wait for the plows to hit the streets.  I guess I'll be forced to drink a few beers and watch the Capitals game this afternoon.

Boy, youse Mid-Atlantic and SouthEasters are havin all the fun! Wink Cheesy C'mon...admit it...it's kinda cool ain't it?

You'll think I'm crazy, but I count on, and actually enjoy havin' at least one good Nor'Easter blizzard each winter up here. Have your wood stocked up, food hangin' around, jerrycans with H2O, good ol' oil lamps and candles and you're good to go. Dispatch the snowblower as needed. Oh, yeah....whisky....gotta have whisky! Grin There's just something about being able to hang home while it's howlin' and drifting outside that appeals. My own place is 200 years old and has seen plenty of this. There was life before electricity, and this gives one a chance to have a "window" on the older days. I like it.....for a little while! Wink

Seriously....hope you folks are doing OK, and aren't inconvenienced too much...hang in there and good luck!

Yep, a few weeks ago, 4:30 am furnace shutoff due to snow buildup around the intake pipe after a nice heavy snow, just another 8" snow-light-,found out it was a nice time to walk around town......... As much snow as I have scooped this year, I may be considered twisted, fresh snow still leaves a new perspective on it.....LIFE.......

20 years ago I moved as deep south as possible in this cold country, with the hope that I could escape as much snow and cold and long dark winter-nights as possible.

We've had snow since mid-December, it's been below 0* (C!) also, and as far as the weatherreports can predict it's unchanged.

Now you guys get to know how we feel at least 5 months every year.  In 1979 our first snowfall was Sept. 16, (my wife's birthday) and out last was May 14, (the day before my Dad's b'day).
The funny thing though is that when we lived in Ky, we missed it.  Down there we would hear, "There is a chance of one to three inches and the following schools will be closed...".  Everything, including grocery stores and doctors would be locked up tight. Our last year in Kentucky, shool closed 26 days related to weather.

Up here we get 12 inches and hear, "School starts will be delayed two hours..." and if they do close, you drop the kids off at the ski hill on your way to work.
