that the way people push their shopping carts are the way they drive at least in the parking lot?  I hope they're not that way on the street.   Undecided

Around here they definitely do drive like that... as I mentioned to Abby today at the Costco, "Oh, crap - they *&%*^&@# shop like they *&%*^&@# drive!"

Stop in the middle of the aisle, put the cart at an angle so nobody else can get through, wander aimlessly.  The only thing(s) missing are the seat belt dragging on the ground and the constantly-on left turn signal (that being the ONLY time you usually see a turn signal around here, unless they get their sleeve caught in it while they're turning).

Carts are a pet peeve of mine.  Folks can push them around for hours in the store, but can't take 30 seconds to put them up on the lot.  They'll go to the effort to lift the front wheels to park them in the mulch on an island, but can't find the cart corral......

Just yesterday I was headed down an isle with a cart and saw someone coming from the other way, there was another shopper stopped, but there was plenty of room for one of us to get through, so I gave way and let them through, then this a-hole pushes up and stops right along side the other stopped shopper not even aware that there were two people trying to get through the isle. I almost gave him an ear full, but thought better of it. :Sad

What was funny was after this jerk was done and gone the both of us that were waiting to get through just looked at each other and had the look of what a jerk. Roll Eyes

Guess the little blurb in my signature is right, 4 wheels doesn't necessarily mean a car.

Cart rage!

Yep!  Next there will be talk of pistols, running over someone's toe, special cart lanes to separate them from the basket carriers, or throwing a ball bearing ( or maybe a Malega grape in this case ) at a recalcitrant cart-pusher to sort them out ..... !   Cheesy

Ya know, things are a little weirder here on the border with mexico. Our Wal Mart supercentro is about 2 blocks from the border/port of entry, and thus many mexican shoppers walk over to shop. Its common to see a shopping cart being pushed, with 3 kids in it, two on the bottom shelf, one in the seat on top, and loaded to the hilt with groceries, making a B-line for the border, before the orange vested shopping cart "police" catch up to them and "bust" them for taking the cart off the property.....into old Mejico! Its hilarious sometimes watching this cat and mouse game taking place.A few years ago, they tried putting some electronic braking device on one of the front wheels that would lock up the wheel once the cart passes a pre set perimeter around the outskirts of the huge parking lot. Many times you would see , a mom pushing the cart from behind, with the help of two kids pushing, and one pulling in front, with a locked right front wheel, the rubber tire already worn flat on the bottom, from dragging! It was difficult finding a cart with a right front tire that wasnt worn flat in a couple of spots, and kerplunked, kerplunked when you pushed it. they gave up that" clever" idea, instead, I guess they got US Customs to put some kind of massive turnstile on the southbound border sidewalk , so the carts could not be pushed into mexico, so you usually see a pile o 20-30 carts abandoned at the border, which wally world sends a couple "ass o ciates" to bring back in pickup trucks, a couple times a day. one time, I saw a gal that was riding towards the border, piloting one of the stores handicap electric scooters, nervously turning her head, to look  behind her, with the scooter's power cord tied to a shopping cart in tow, full of merchandise, one kid on her lap, another in the shopping cart's seat, and the third older kid running behind to make sure his little brother in the cart was ok! I wish I would have had my camera with me ! Shocked Shocked   I guess things are a  " little different" on the Border....... Grin   Rick.

not even aware that there were two people trying to get through

So they DO handle the carts exactly like they drive.

The one you haven't mentioned, which is very common here, is where two shoppers, usually mom's with multiple kids/and or husband in tow, who meet a "homey'" in the aisle and park there blocking all traffic and talk for about 15-20 minutes.  Totally oblivious, hmmmm? I guess they do drive that way too.  It's really common for two people that know each other to stop in the middle of the road and talk, blocking both lanes. Grin

The only dents I've got on my 4 wheel vehicles came from those ***holes letting their empty carts roll somehwere ( into my cars ) when they were done with them rather than responsibly taking them back to the cart corral. If they don't care about other people's property I doubt that they drive reponsibly either.

I crack up waiting in the truck for my wife watching just this. How they pilot it, what they do with it after loading and how quickly they engage in a cell phone conversation before even putting the car into reverse (this before backing into lots full of unsupervised kids because their folks are talking on the phone as well).

Yeah waiting in the vehicle is quite entertaining. Once when I saw this Hoss just back the dor of his beater pick-up into the door of a well kept car. I noticed he just shrugged and took off.

Another time I saw a woman back into another car ( while on the cell ) and I had enough time to stop her before she tried to get away without even putting a note on the other person's car!

If you must park your bike in one of those shopping place lots, put it somewher remote.

Don't forget to mention that stray carts in the lot are a great place to clean the car out.  Empties, the McDonalds bag, dirty diapers, etc.  The collection crew will get it.

Oh, yea.

Lannis,  I missed your two earlier posts to this thread and didn't get to reply.  Sorry about the delay.

I've concluded that a large number of people get their drivers licence out of a Cracker Jacks box. Also, they don't drive their cars down the road, they heard them!

and I thought this was true only in Central Ohio.  It has always amazed me that as soon as people pull off the highway into the shopping center parking lot they surrender all forms of knowledge/skill as to driving - don't have to drive on the right, don't have to signal - then we're all at their mercy when they begin to pilot the shopping cart.  I can't believe how many people I've seen who have to turn on the cell phone first before they start the car, buckle up...then put it in reverse and just back up, jabbering away on the cell phone.  What did people do before cell phones when they had to wait to get home to talk to hubby?  I don't recall seeing long lines at the pay phone booth with people having to talk to somebody before they left the parking lot.  At times we are a frightful lot.

Sorry, they have surrendered all forms of knowledge/skill WELL BEFORE getting to the parking lot.
We have made cars so automatic, that the act of driving is an inconvenience to the majority of the people. They just want to get it over with. Yet they wouldn't dare stoop to using public transportation.  Roll Eyes  People no longer want to be involved with driving and the challenge of doing it right. IMHO, the automatic transmission should be banned unless you have a doctors permit. Go from there. Communities are hurting for $$$, triple the fine for not using a turn signal...

On my daily drive I see soccer moms hauling there little rug rats to school in giant SUVs. Don't dare let them ride a safer bus. The real kicker. They drive through two other school zones at 20 or more MPH over the limit to drop off there little future moron at his school, where they drive at the speed limit. I see this every day.

As mentioned, it is all about THEM....

Well here they don't obey the speed limit in their own school zone either.  I have to drive through a school zone every morning on my way to walk the dogs, and the biggest violaters of evey single traffic law are the parents with their "precious cargo".  It also totally freaks me out that every kid gets delivered one at a time in a giant SUV or truck.  Not ONE walks or rides a bike to school.
