yes, I too would expect a decent pic or two for my 60 grand. Truth be told there are only a few folks out there who can make a good job of restoring one of these properly, they would want another bit of money depending on what a tear down reveals. Please keep another twenty or thirty grand (USD) in your back pocket for this and that. this was a landmark machine and weighs in at around 455 pounds,

The usual rule is 5/10. For every 5 you invest in purchase price, have 10 reserved for restoration.
If you're rich enough to be serious about a Vincent, though, this doesn't matter. The absolute numbers are still chickenfeed compared to your income/wealth.
Note: I am not in the referenced class.

That's my point. To paraphrase Fitzgerald and Hemingway, Vincent owners are not like you and me....they have more money.

How times have changed… back in the mid- to late 80s in the Bay Area, the Vincent riders were easy to find at bike gatherings. Just follow your nose to what seemed to be a GD show, if you catch my drift. And those guys rode the snot out of what were then $10,000 bikes. A good bunch.
I wonder how many still have the bikes given the massive financial "appreciation"?
Now? Too valuable/expensive to actually ride. Sad, really. cr

You'd be surprised at how many are still used hard and often, a lot of them still owned by guys who bought them before the prices went silly. The NZVOC had a gathering in my neighbourhood a couple of years ago, about ten bikes ranging from tidy users to hard ridden and rough, no trailer queens in that lot. I've been building mine out of used parts but even junk is getting overpriced now, I should have started twenty years ago Miles.

A friend of mine restored one last year, as he wanted something suitable for taking his daughter on a week long tour of the Alps. He also has 2 Brough SS100s and an SS90, which he rides almost daily (mainly one of the SS100s), plus some other Brit bikes. He wants to pick up two more Broughs so he can give one to each of his kids so they don't fight over them. Tom

Actually, not always. They just have different priorities. I know quite a few guys with Vincents. Most of them have done pretty well for themselves, but none of them are old-money Rockefellers. And most of them ride them - you can find one on the Parkway just about any sunny Sunday afternoon. Matter of fact, take a few minutes and review the signature lines listing the bikes that the guys on THIS list own. There are 50 guys on this list who could sell some or all of the fun bikes they own, or just mom's Escalade, and be riding a Vincent instead. It's not that big a deal. Once you've got it, it's just like any other old BritBike to maintain, the parts are pretty cheap, and the ones that aren't are reproduced - you can build a complete Vincent from spares. But most people don't want to make that commitment to one old bike ..... ! Lannis
