Michigan Moto Guzzi Rally
« on: August 23, 2010, 06:42:48 PM »
Michigan Moto Guzzi Rally will be Sept 10th thru 12th in the Traverse City area. (Cycle Moore Campground in Interlochen to be exact). Found out a couple days ago that the phone number on our web site was off by one digit. Has since been corrected and I bought my neighbor a case of beer for the typo. (sorry 'bout that). Looking forward to seeing everybody. Have a great ride up, down or over! More info on the website, www.MiGuzziRally.co m

...and Battle of the Brits is the same weekend here in Mich. We have talked about changing the date of the Rally, but just seems there are conflicts which ever way we go. Wasnt easy deciding on a good date when we set it up 9 years ago, and doesnt get any easier. O welll.. Just tryin to do the best we can.

drats...and I'm going to be in my home state that weekend - but have a date for sailing out of Bay City.  If I recall, Interlochen is just a bit far to run over for lunch...so this T will keep the central part of the state safe while you're all up there in the woods doing guzzi things.

Kathy and I are moving back to Michigan on October 10 .... Looks like I'll have to wait until next year .... Have a great rally and Ron feel free to call on me for any help I may be able to offer from over here in the far east.

Last year was my first MI rally - great time for sure. Planning on attending this year rain or shine.

Great riding in that area - spent two weekends at CycleMoore this year so far...looking to do a couple more with the rally being one. I usually include a craft brewery tour in my weekend - there are 3 worthy destinations doable in an afternoon (2 others optional) - not about drinking lots, but enjoying the craft of beer and after one beer ok, maybe two if we're there a while, then on to the next. Nice roads, pretty vistas and just a great time in a great area.

Shooting for a Friday arrival but if not, early Saturday AM.

I'm all set to host the lunch ride.  This will be the third year I have volunteered for this activity and have a new spot already picked out and have made the ride to and from the campground. The manager of this lunch spot is excited to have the Guzzies show up as he is a FAN!!!!! ;-T I'd sure appreciate a head count on the lunch ride as soon as possible.

This season I attended the Western New York Rally, the Iowa Rally, the Minnesota Rally, The Wisconsin Rally, the Ontario, Canada Rally and have promoted the Michigan Rally at all of these.  I sure hope we get some out of state attendees.

My Norge is close to 40K miles and still running like new.  Hope it continues......

My wife also has upgraded her ride from a 250cc Honda Rebel to a 450 Rebel.  The 250 had a tough year as the engine again failed (cam & followers) coming home from the Minnesota Rally.  We can all thank CaptPea for finding this bike for his mother.

wish I could join you all - I'm gonna be in my home state for the weekend - but have plans for sailing out of Bay City.  Didn't know about the rally till it was too late.   But, I am in Ann Arbor tonight for a layover - then heading out in the morning - anybody interested in meeting for breakfast as you head to the rally & I head to the Bay?  I always enjoy meeting other Guzzi riders.

Man, I finely get to go to a rally!!  ;D ;D It has been two years since I was down to Cycle-Moore and I can wait to get there. I am supposed to leave after work today but as I see my EV in the parking lot all loaded up and ready to go, it is just killing me!! Don't think I am going to make it to 5:00pm. How can tell them I am sick and then get on my bike and ride outa here?  ~;

Seems like every time I ride M-22, it rains!! Oh well, it did dry out a little on Sat. night and a glorious day on Sunday dried everything out completely! (Including me!)  ;)

CaptPea, really nice to meet you Eric, and make the "Home town" connection!

Thanks to all that put on a great, albeit small, rally!  ;-T

Lunch Ride Results.

The rain really damped the outing. Louise & I worked hard to put this ride together and the weather just sucked. I'll post photos when I get back to Honor tomorrow. I'm really grateful to the 11 hardy soles that did the ride. The ride was designed to stay away from traffic which makes the whole thing a lot easier and safer.  I wanted to show off the remainder of M22 ( thus the M22 decals) as we did the northern route last year. Next year we'll try for another unique spot. See y'all then.

To recognize M22, one of the best motorcycle roads in Michigan I contacted the M22 store in Traverse City and they helped in providing the M22 decals and one coffee mug (at cost) that were then awarded at the luncheon.
The luncheon at the Portage Point Inn & Yacht Club was excellent with a warm & dry dining room.  They even offered the use of clothes dryers, but we all refrained from sitting in the dining room in our underwear.

So how was it guys ? ....  rally report PLZ !

As Capt Pea said, bit of rain Saturday. Not a gully washer, but rained for the whole ride. Cleared up for dinner, awards and best of all, didn't have to break camp Sunday in the rain or have a hard rain all the way home. Don't think anybody melted.

Had around 40 people register (all time high) and right around 70 registered (all time low) with a handful of tire kickers Saturday.

Thanks to all those who braved the little sprinkles, Randy & family for doing the ride, to Sally & Floyd K who won the 50/50 & promply dumped the $93 back into the rally fund (after donating engraved flashlights for all, and taking care of the arrangements for the shirts for us!),  and to all those who donated BIG TIME to the rally. We have a number of folks who go way above and beyond for the rally year after year. Special thanks to my wife and kids. If it wasn't for them, it just wouldn't happen.

Should have some pictures posted on the web site by tomorrow.

Andy, will be good to see you and Kathy next year. maybe kimchi for Saturday night dinner or do you guys like that for breakfast??
