The price point is stunning!  MG must be counting on high volume to make this profitable.  Maybe the success of the V7 line and the Stelvio NTX have shown the way.  Since I was expecting the price to be around $20K the reality is refreshing.  Between this and the 'hinted at' V7 Special I think MG should be getting lots of attention.  Heck, maybe even some new dealers who will appreciate the brand.

These will sell fast at that price point. I'm stunned. Isn't the euro price different?

A demo program a la the Stone unveiling is planned.
Demos due to arrive in April at pre-ordering dealers.
These units will be blocked from retail sale for 120 days.
Retail units are due to ship in May.

We have been told that no bikes will be shipped to dealers without a
tech who has attended the Cal 1400 class in Ca.
Larry goes April 15-17.
I hope they hold to this demand.

Oh this sucks, this really sucks. How could I possibly convince my wife all three motorcycles were stolen and the insurance company settled up with a new California 1400 Touring with the trunk.

I'm thinking the Moto Guzzi Classifieds are about about to swell.

Thank you Todd Haven!!!

We are being ripped off again here in Australia $24990 AUD. for the Touring and $21990 for the custom still good value but I would buy one tomorrow at the US price, considering the exchange rate at $1.045 US to the AUD.

Oz pricing is pretty close to the Griso and Griso SE. Good value I reckon if cruisers are your thing - especially when compared to equivelant HDs.

From my perspective, I think MG is showing they understand the US market pretty well.  Large cruisers are the lionshare of bikes sold in the US, as demonstrated by Kev M's posts, and by coming in at a very competitive price, could well boost sales and take quite a bit of buisiness from the Japanese chasers of Harley.  I can see the thought process, buyers would be getting something unique and different from a Far East copy, but at a discount to a Harley.

The CARC's, V7's, and now this.  Hope it works well for them, but service and dealer network is still a major concern in limiting their success.

18K Is EXACTLY  what I predicted in the merged thread fest, for the touring model.   Which I think is a fair price to be sure.  But what really struck me is the price for the custom, 15K, that's a least a grand lower than I expected, good for Guzzi!

I sure would. If I had the money and/or could sell/trade my existing motorcycles. I like my CalVin, a lot. I find it a great all around motorcycle. Especially now that it's running the way it was intended to and I have a set of EV chrome tubeless wheels for it. But IMHO, it's not all that comfortable, especially 2 up and is simply a bit under sized and a bit under powered. My left hips hurts after too much time on the CalVin from downshifting with the floorboard and the shifter position.

By the early reports that have been posted about the California 1400, it addresses everything I wanted it to.

All the best,

Mark

Wow - uncomfy, undersized, and under powered?  How big of a guy are you Mark, and just how fast do you want to go?

Good for Guzzi!  Can't wait to see one!  The bike should be very competitive in the USA touring market.

I like the concept of LED lights:  good safety move and also pretty.

Cam

Well, you're NOT a big guy, and I'm ASSuming neither is your little woman.

I dunno - I can understand those points, even if I don't necessarily find it that way for me.

But I'm NOT a fan of 2-up on any bike (except when taking my daughter for a ride), especially for any distance. It's one thing for a nice afternoon ride with a loved one, but touring - no thanks.

That said, I find the Cali's to have similar power to weight ratios to the smallblocks (perhaps a tiny bit more) so again, I can understand someone wanting more, even if that person isn't me.

I'm getting excited about the Cali 1400 all over again and think I will take a ride out to a dealer with a demo this spring. Hope one of the local dealers around here decides to get one - maybe Coopersburg Eurosports or Europa will.

I'll give a  +1 to that.  I don't generally ride 2 up, but I have taken it on reasonably long rides and find it very comfortable.  It's certainly not as fast as some other bikes I've owned, but it serves its purpose commendably.  And I think it looks about a hundred times better than the (pictures of) the 1400.
