Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's Daytona
« on: May 25, 2013, 05:24:11 PM »
I finally pulled the trigger on a 1993 Daytona 1000! I've been lusting after the Daytona 1000 since the late '90's but for whatever reason my desire for one had an uptick over the last year so I've gone and done it. I picked it up this morning and took the long way home.....

I like the front fork conversion.  What did the come off of?

It's a GSX-R front end. It was done by the previous owner. I have the OEM forks, front fender, brakes etc. so I can return it to stock if I want to but after the long ride home today I don't want to.....

I hear ya! I rode this bike in the late '90's when it had the OEM front end on and there is no comparison to it's current set up. I liked the bike then but now....wow.

Welcome to the daytona club! That looks fantastic, and I love the gold wheels. The only thing I would do is dump the tokico calipers for some brembos. You will feel the difference.

Oh yeah, that's one of the first things I'd like to do. The Tokico's seem sacrilegious on this bike. I've been planning on upgrading the front brake and clutch etc. on my Sport 1100 with brembo units as well so I might as well start buying stock in the company.....

IIRC.  Something to do with the H4 bulb and the ozone in the air.  Kind of like smoke coming from a fire.  A cotton ball with alcohol should clean it off.  You just have to be good with chopsticks.

For heavens sakes don't worry about the origin of the brakes or fork! Tokis are great brakes, better than period Brembos but you'll ger through pads at a great rate, guess how I know!

The forks are I presume yer standard Showas? Great, great fork. Yes for ultimate feel and compliance Ohlins are better but you'll pay a price in servicing and parts. The nice thing about Showas is that they are not only easily tuned and rebuilt but since just about every Japanese Sportsbike spares are readily available from Captain Fleabay. They are infinitely nicer than the original 'Zocchis or whatever they had WP's? At the end of the day the Showas are a much better thing than anything other than the absolute 'Creme deLa creme' suspension units. No shame in having them on a truly great Guzzi like a Daytona.

Y'ep has to be with humidity and length of time the headlight is on.  Must be ozone residue from cooking off the moisture.
