New Dart Marlin for Guzzi V7 - special offer!
« on: April 08, 2015, 01:37:12 PM »
Hi,

It’s Steve Sleddon from Dart Flyscreens here. I think quite a few members are familiar with our products but if not, we make a range of small screens for naked roadsters, and the V7 and Griso are two big sellers of ours. Check out www.dartflyscreens. com and you’ll see.

I’m here with an offer… you see, we’ve just launched a new screen called the Marlin. It’s slightly larger than the Classic flyscreen and is styled with more than a nod to the Mk1 Le Mans, so it should suit the Guzzis rather well. The problem I have is that I don’t have a V7 any more, so can’t take any photos of the screen on the bike.

What I’m looking for is a couple of V7 owners (preferably two different coloured bikes in reasonably standard trim) who can take high quality photographs of the screen in position. In return, you get a free Marlin screen to keep. You’ll also be the first two people in the world to have one on your V7!

If this is of interest, please drop me a line: steve@dartflyscreens.com

All the best,
Steve

You've got mail.

If someone else hasn't already offered I'd be very happy to mount and photograph the new version of your flyscreen.

As a matter of fact I've currently got the standard V7 Dart on there now so I can provide pictures with both for comparison purposes.

Wow - what an overwhelming response! No more, please...

Thanks to all who responded. I'll pick the lucky two and get a screen off to you.

Well, you did offer something free to a bunch of Guzzisti ;D

I can personally vouch for the Dart flyscreen on the V7.  Looking forward to the availability of the Marlin!

Please consider me also, my Dart flyscreen is only 2 weeks old and I would have opted for something larger if it had been available. Thanks.

Steve, will this new screen fit the V7 mounting brackets for the Classic?

FWIW, I don't see why not.

The Dart I currently have mounts on either a Classic or a V7 the same way.

And actually I don't think there are any differences in that area - i.e. the headlight, headlight mount, triple-tree, bars etc. are all the same AFAIK.

A popular question! No, I'm afraid not. The increased size of the Marlin means larger brackets too. Sorry 'bout that.

WOW, so WHAT is different between the V7 Classic and my Stone or a Special that interferes? I'm surprised.

Or did I misunderstand the question. Was he asking if you used the same mounting brackets for the Dart flyscreen as for the Marlin?

I thought he was just asking if the Marlin for the Stone would fit the Classic too?

A difference in the mounting brackets, not the bike.

I think the question was would brackets for the smaller screen work with the new larger screen.

Answer was they will not because new brackets were required for the new screen.

Mutual misunderstanding Kev! Rocker is right - I was referring only to the difference between the screen designs. Mounting points on the various bikes are the same throughout the range.

The Marlin certainly has a nice styling to it.  I like the way the Dart smooths the air without buffeting the air, and wonder how the Marlin would change and/or improve that.

Here it is on my '07 Breva 750:

Smooth air is the key, not blocked air.  Bigger isn't necessarily better if it creates more buffeting.  Air is not the enemy; clashing of air is.

I suspect the key to this design is the curve which would potentially address your concern.

Yes, I have a Dart Classic on my V7S, was wondering if I could just buy the bigger screen and re-use the existing mounting brackets. This is the forum of cheapskates after all  ;D

INITIAL REPORT.

Came home from a 100 mile or so ride on the V7 Stone on Monday to find a UPS package on my porch.

Recognized the sender and quickly ran with it back to the garage to install the Dart Marlin (removing the Dart Classic).

It was late and I had things to do (and it rained all day yesterday) so I haven't had time for any pictures or a thorough test yet, but before grabbing the kids from daycare I ran back out for a quick 5 mile or so buzz up and down one of the main roads by my house trying to note the differences with the Dart Classic at speeds around 30ish, 50ish, and 70ish.

Here are the first impressions.

I'm very happy with it.

Extremely high quality construction, design, packaging, even the installation instructions.

It looks and feels much higher in quality than the National Cycle Hand Deflectors I installed on my Sportster this past fall.

More importantly compared to the standard DART Flyscreen that I've been using for the past few thousand miles it produces the larger bubble of dead air that one might expect and which I was wanting.

The Dart Classic produces a dead pocket of air at my chest on this bike, basically taking all wind pressure off it. But if I slouch a little my face (and I prefer an open face helmet when I can) winds up in some turbulence, with only the top of my helmet in a clear stream. If I straighten up them most (maybe all) of my face gets in that clear stream of air. It's not bad and I think it looks fantastic in that it basically disappears on the bike (while providing an easier to clean surface than the back of the instrument pod lol).

In contrast the Marlin seems to produce a dead pocket of air that is larger, at least up to my neck, possibly even including my face at lower speeds - 30ish for sure, maybe 50ish. On top of that, I need to test more, but I THINK it might transition better from the dead pocket to the clear stream with minimal or maybe no buffeting. The additional size and probably the SHAPE seems to contribute to that. As such it's much more comfortable for me in an open face helmet and I think it's a keeper.

I might be able to sneak off later today for a longer test and a few pics late today, so stay tuned.

My Marlin also showed up in the mail the other day, but I won't be able to get it mounted until next weekend. First impressions: love the shape, same high quality as other Dart products and agree that it will likely provide the extra wind buffeting that was missing from the Dart Classic. Can't wait to see it mounted up.

Will post some pics and feedback soon as possible.

Based on my early expectations, let me know if anyone is in the market for a used (but mint condition) Dart Classic screen. :)
