Flickering dash lights
« on: May 25, 2015, 01:14:07 PM »
I have not been able to find the fault in my dash lights, the two bulbs that illuminate the pods on my 2001 Bassa/ Cali spec.
I'm thinking about running a new wire to the effected lights and connecting them to another circuit that is energized by the ignition being on. The question is what do I connect the wire to?
Thanks Carmine

Hey Steve good to hear from you! I had a feeling Jamie was looking for a new bike last time I talked to him. Thanks for the direction on the lights! Steve should I just cut and cap the original wires?

Why not fix the problem? It's no doubt just a corroded connection. A little DeOxit on all the connectors, fuses, relay bases, switches, etc. will take you an hour or two..

Ground wire.

Wouldn't the turnsignals not work, too? Does sound like a ground wire, though.

Well guys I checked every thing and the problem is in the harness right between the gauge pods right where the 1" thick wad of wires that are sleeved in plastic enters the triangle shaped chrome light console! What a nightmare just to get to this point! wriggle the sleeved pile of wires an the dash lights flicker! and nothing else is affected and I tried grounding and did no good! Either I live with it the way it is! OR I add a wire? I am not ripping all that apart again ! I think it would be easy to run  wires to the gauge bulbs? Just saying? LOL

Carl Allison drawings show the gauge lights are also hooked to the tail and park lights, they are fed from a separate contact in the ignition switch, are you sure they aren't flickering too?

I think you will find a ground lifted or perhaps your ignition switch needs cleaning, check the tail light when the gauge is playing up.

On looking at the schematic I see the gauge lights share a ground with the Neutral and flashers so if the latter are working chances are the ground for the former is ok also.
Try wiggling the ignition switch to see if you can reproduce the flickering
Your switch is way overdue for cleaning if it hasn't been done already
It's a 2 beer job.

Oops, I was looking at the wrong schematic. Yep, tail and parking lights, too. Probably ought to figure out what's going on.

The forum seems to be struggling at the moment, it crashed while I was trying to edit and tapatalk seems to be not working.

No the other dash lights and the tail lights are not effected .  Cleaning the ignition switch is something  I would like to do! Any one want to walk me through the procedure?
